Great course for the price
Very challenging course. Greens were in great shape along with tee boxes and fairways. Look forward to playing again.
River Oaks first time playing
The people/Staff were really nice, The greens had been recently aerated and were bumpy. Some small greens with slopes that made reading them for the first time a little difficult. Length was fine, I played from the White Tees ( 78 years old).. I had fun.
It's the little things.
To be fair, the course is immaculate. The day we played we were told they had rolled the greens and they would be firm and fast and they were just that. The greens, fairways and tee boxes were in incredible condition and although the course was packed the pace of play was fast. Honestly, the best condition of any course I've ever played and that includes Harbor Town and TPC Myrtle Beach.
So why the 3 stars instead of 5? Simple. When we arrived just behind us was a Bentley. So every single one of the attendants rushed to the Bentley to retrieve that group's clubs leaving us wondering what was going on. Granted, we're not millionaires, but our money spends just like everyone else's money. Couple that with my wife being the only woman on the course and the course not being female friendly all I can do is give it 3 stars.
If you're a member of the "Old Boy's Network" this is your course. However, if you work for a living and are trying to expose your wife, girlfriend or daughter to the game there are simply better courses to spend your money at in Myrtle Beach.
Fox Course - Fast Nine
Facility was very busy, but the staff was still friendly and accommodating .
We were only playing 9 and wanted to play the Fox. No problem The starter found a break and worked us in. Pace of play was excellent, no waiting.
Easy track in good condition for this time of year, Good course for a warmup after a Northern Covid Winter.
no ball marks
when you have a course with ZERO ball marks on any green....what does that tell you
Decent Round
I play River Oaks at least 4-5 times a year. I enjoy the course and normally the pace of play is decent. I can't blame them for some players not displaying etiquette. I normally play as a single and don't expect anyone to let me play through, especially if someone is in front of them. But if you have 4 people, and ALL of you take 2 swings off of each tee, and spend an average of 1o minutes trying to get to the green, maybe you should consider letting faster players through. The marshall let me down on this round...
Good value and friendly staff
lots of rain the week before. course soggy. cartpath full of hole. greens fine. good value.
Slow play.
We played behind 2 foursomes that were very deliberate. Should have play at least one tee up. At hole 10, a twosome drove ahead of us and started playing. We called a very dis-interested pro shop and after much conversation he said a ranger would be sent out. They never showed up. Back nine took 3 hours.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
If I was 16 yrs. old I would go to the Bentley first & so would you .You are probably a cheapskate anyway. Review the course, nobody gives a crap that someone did not rush to take your clubs I am sure the course has ladies tees, if not too bad.
