Course is in great shape. It's all there for the taking also with a hotel on site great for a golf trip.
Pace of play management horrible
Played on a Saturday morning. Course was crowded and it was cart path only due to several days of rain. Cart path only already slowed down play, but the starter was allowing twosomes to go off and not pairing them up. One twosome had a kid about 3 yrs old with them who they let get up and tee off and putt with a toy club and ball which of course made them even slower. Our round took almost exactly 5 hours to complete.
Great experience!
Greens were still recovering from aeration, but in much better condition. Fairways were nice. Love the layout of this course with challenging par 3’s, and risk-reward par 5’s. The staff is top notch and very friendly!!
Aeration
I like this course, especially during nice weather. Unknown to me the greens had been very recently aerated. My normal rating for the "course conditions" is Good but I dropped it because of the greens. The fairways and traps were in very good condition.
Great course, getting ready for summer!!
Fairways were in good shape, a few more weeks and they will be perfect. Greens had just been aerated so they were bumpy, but after the greens heal they will be in perfect shape. Pace of play was great, staff was friendly and helpful even to a non-regular.
Discount only because of the punched greens
Don’t play unless you call ahead and ask if the greens are in good shape. Charged me for a senior fee and it STILL wasn’t even worth half of that price. Would’ve never come out had I know. No warnings or mentions of it. Poor mgmt
The course is yours for the raking. It's all right in front of you. If you drive it straight iyou should score well.
Super friendly staff and a fun course to play!
My wife and I absolutely enjoyed our first round at Cattails and plan on returning. It’s an hour and a half drive for us over the mountains to Kingsport and well worth the time. From the staff inside (sorry I didn’t get your names), to the starter Dan (thanks for your help), and the maintenance crew, you can tell they enjoy their job and it reflects in their attitudes.
The fairways were kinda thin, but it’s early in the season. The rough was manageable and not too penal. The greens were receptive and rolled true. There are birdies to be made out there! The front 9 is pretty wide open and you can be a little loose off the tee but you need to hit it under control on the back!
I was having a great round until the “Cat Trap” got me! I was 1 under par going in, came out at 2 over. I made par at #11 (a tough, extreme uphill par 5) doubled #12 (way downhill par 3) by misjudging the wind and watched my ball sail over the green and disappear OB down the side of the mountain, and bogeyed #13 (drivable par 4 but risky). I was able to get one back on #16, a great risk/reward par 5. It bends to the right around a big pond but if you can hit your tee shot down the right side close to the water, you’re left with about 180-190 yards over the pond to the green. If not, you have to play around the pond.
All in all, we can’t wait to go back and play again and bring our friends along. I know they just aerated the greens on 4/25,26 but they should be fine within a few weeks.
I highly recommend anyone play the course. With 5 sets of tees to chose from, golfers of all skill levels can have a great time!
Surprise
Upon paying in advance and loading up our gear , we were informed that we would have to play the back 9 twice , due to aeration of the front. Advance communication of this would have been thoughtful.
Nice course, a little wet
We’ve played Cattails many times over the last five years and it is usually soggy in the early spring. We haven’t played as much this year because of the price increase.
Cattails
This course is by far my favorite.. I only wish they had a nice driving range and maybe softer greens. Everything else is amazing! They have nice employees whom are always respectful and friendly which is very important to me. I have introduced this course to numerous people and now Cattails is the only place they want to play lol
