Beautiful course
Beautiful course. Rolling hills.
Bring lots of balls!!
Green is not the best
Love the place challenging beautiful!
But green wasn’t the best .
Must see and play course
First time playing Wolfdancer and it was fantastic. The layout is exceptional and extremely scenic with many challenges for any level of golf. The multitude of bunkers are well placed and come into play frequently. The greens roll true and were not overly fast but fast enough to not want be above the hole. Many beautiful views from this course and most of the holes are postcard material. Would definitely recommend this course to anyone that wants a serious challenge
Challenging
The course was very challenging and was fun to play. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Not worth the price
The green fee was $100+ and course conditions do not warrant asking this much. The tee boxes are unacceptable at this price plus greens and fringes are very spotty.
Good layout and would recommend at $50-70 but not more. Played 3 courses this week in the area, all cheaper with superb conditions.
Challenging but very rewarding
I was a bit hesitant to play here due to the price...but WOW I was impressed! It was my first time here and I was going solo, luckily got paired up with a group of guys that were very cool to play a round of golf with.
The little touches that make it feel like a country club we’re nice, but the course was the star of the shoe. Greens had a few (very few) patches in a couple of holes but understandably this time of year! They were rolling about 11 so nice pace and very true. The layout was very challenging from the back tees but was very playable for all from the multiple tees.
I will definitely spend more rounds here! I am actually considering a membership here, but the 45-60 min drive for me makes that a little tough to do.
Great golf course on amazing Texas resort property!
Wolfdancer is a top notch public golf course located just outside Bastrop, Texas. The terrain and course layout are beautiful. The course conditions: luscious rolling fairways, hill country red colored bunkers, excellent tee boxes, dramatic elevation changes, quick undulating greens and gorgeous Texas hill country scenic vistas make this course one of the best in the state. A must play...and the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort is top notch and a must visit destination as well.
Beautiful hill country course
About 30 minutes from downtown Austin is a gem of a course. Course was in great shape though the greens had been punched within last 12 days. Typical Arthur Hills resort course that follows the lay of the land which has great topo with very generous fairways. No housing on course and made it around in 3 hours on Memorial Day afternoon. Staff was very friendly and even helped me exit through a goofy entrance/exit gate that was not manned. It’s not Barton Creek but you don’t have to stay at resort to play and it’s a lot less expensive. Also probably gets less play than Barton Creek.
Love this course cut terrible conditions
I know the rain has been a lot lately but a few greens had mini bunkers on them. All the fringe and edges hadn’t been mowed. Bunkers were all wet and muddy
Grass wasn’t mowed. Have always loved this course and have played it for 10 years plus. Worst shape I’ve seen it
Such a shame. For $400 a night for a room the course should be immaculate
Come on guys
could have been better
from the get-go, appeared as though not much effort was put into the golf experience ...that said view others take on it... a wedding, on the course, was planned so staff may have been focused on that ...but... makes no excuse for the poor upkeep, in general, of the greens .... appears to me it was allowed to fall into disarray ....that stuff happens,,,seasons / too much rain / not enuff...whatever ! but, price one pays should reflect that, in my opinion
thus no real value in my opinion
Great Course
We go down to Wolfdancer about twice a year and it never disappoints. Greens are coming in nicely, but a little slower than usual. Fairways and bunkers are in great condition. Staff is awesome.
Texas Hill Country golf
Great track with some great views of the Texas Hill Country. The native grass areas should be cut lower though. Good luck finding your ball in those areas and if you do, you can forget about getting a club on the ball. Miss the fairway by a foot and it's a penalty because you can't find your ball. Greens were okay but still a ways from great. All in all we had a great day on the golf course and I'll definitely come back.
Still a treat in Austin
I've reviewed Wolfdancer 3-4 times already and have given it 5 stars every time. As a few of the previous reviews mention, there is a bit of a poa outbreak at the moment, most notably around some green surrounds. I wouldn't say it affects golf shots, but it does just give the course a bit less of a polished aesthetic, so those paying the peak resort rack rate (which is the area's highest besides Barton Creek) might leave having expected more. But the gorgeous scenery is still the same and it's a rare course 'round here where you don't hear housing construction going on. That's why I come. I thought the greens rolled nicely and there were putts dropping all day in our group (humblebrag!). I saw a lot of crew members out there that day so I would expect that they'll have the course dialed in for summer. .
The staff couldn't have been better and the bev cart came early and often (which was needed!).
Everything about this course was great, except for the greens. Weeds have overtaken the grass around the fringe and skirt of the greens as well as on the green itself. Not worth the price tag.
What could have been
The layout of this course is truly above average...that is the highlight. The conditon of the course left a little to be desired. The greens had just been top dressed with sand (sure would have been nice to know that!) making them very difficult and untrue. The grass had not truly grown all the way in yet...not sure if that is a product of the time of year or what (although other courses in the area were fine). Staff her were just so so...not overly friendly.
