Resort Course with a Great Texas layout!
Wolfdancer is a club about 30min outside of Dowtown Austin. Definitely worth the drive out. I would guess because of the distance away from town it was not crowded at all the day I went to play and the pace of play was excellent (even though I was a onesome). I would recommend booking on Golfnow rather then contacting the Hyatt for a teetime. It was $30 cheaper.
The front nine is very hilly and VERY difficult (especially in a central TX 20mph wind). the back is down in a valley and is substantially easier. That would be my only complaint about this course, the disparity in levels of difficulty of the nine holes. The was a very downhill par five on the front (4 I believe) that I think may be one of the four or five hardest par 5's I have ever played (especially into the wind).
Condition of the course was very good. Greens were a little slow, but it is just getting warm and I suspect that will change by the end of the month.
I paired this round, during my trip, with a round at Avery Ranch. Very good combo. This track is much more challenging, Avery is more fun. Both worth a trip back!
Great course!
Played twilight rates for a great price. Course was in great shape. Very challenging. Staff was on point and friendly. I will be back.
Forkandknife8,
Fantastic! We are glad to see you utilized our different rates to find the perfect tee time for you! Come back again soon. Summer is approaching - you excited? We are! Thanks again!

Good resort course
We played this when the conditions were dorman (winter golf). Greens were slow and grainy, but again, it was cold and had rained days prior. Overall a fun course and I look forward to playing it in the prime season.
Jason,
Thank you for the great comment. We look forward to the grass turning green soon. We hope you can come back again and have another enjoyable day!

Best Greens in Central Texas
The greenskeeper at this course should be proud because these are literally the best greens in central Texas. A really solid experience overall - nice short game area, range, clubhouse, outstanding customer service - and incredible conditioning on this golf course. Great job Wolfdancer team - I'll be coming back out soon !!
Challenging and demanding course
My friend and I played with unusually warm weather The greens were fast but played fairly. This course demands good management of position and there are some blind shots. Have some balls as wayward shots can result in lost balls. Some undulating greens can cost strokes easily if played downhill. Very good time, pace of play excellent finished in little over 3.5 hrs. Staff friendly and helpful with bags, cleaned clubs before and after, good directions to range, 1st tee. GPS top of the line.
Great Course
This is a great course. The front 9 is very challenging and the back 9 is beautiful. The greens in the winter are very fast and with the contours become extremely challenging. A great place to play. Staff is always great.
Soggy does not do justice.
It rained and the course did't close. Instead it went cart path only and it made for a very wet and long round. Our feet were soaked by the third hole. The course looks like it would be fun during dry conditions. The friendly staff helped make up for the conditions.some nice hill country scenery.
Great course
With the exception of the $4 Coke it was a great experience.
Wolfdancer
Great/Fun Course. Arrive early to take advantage of the great practice facilities. The back tees weren't up but it's still fairly challenging from the blue tees.
Wolfdancer is beautiful.
Great course conditions and luxury catrs with GPS. Always a really fantastic comfortable time here. The food and drink at the clubhouse also rock.
Good time
Very friendly staff. Course was in great shape and I enjoyed the design.
Great Course, it's worth the drive!
Great staff from arrival to clubhouse! Course was beautiful, great fairways, fast greens. If you can book and get a good rate on GolfNow, do it! I could not pay their normal fees, but drive out there in the afternoon, which I did. Make a tee time from the parking lot, their tee times were wide open from 2-6pm. Every time a tee time passes, the next tee time will go to a 1-2 player HOTDEAL. I did this at 4pm for a 410pm tee time. Took time to putt and hit driving range and went out around 430. Had enough time to play the full round with almost no one on the course. Reminds me of a Colorado course with elevation changes, undulations on the greens. I will definitely be back!!!
A Looker AND a Beast
First of all a beautiful facility/resort that is both very welcoming and laid-back.
The course looked great and was in very good condition. However, the greens had been aerated and very very tough to get a good roll on all day.
Fairways and GIR are a must in you want to generate any type of scoring. The rough can really punish you and fairway bunkers are very firm.
The carts GPS and map were top notch and were invaluable to our round.
I will definitely play this course again! I want a rematch with the Wolf.
A posterchild for golf in Central Texas
When you're looking for golf in Austin, you have two choices: head west into the Hill Country for hilly courses full of rock outcroppings, or go east of town, where courses are generally flatter and less interesting. At least until you get to remarkable acreage of Lost Pines near Bastrop along the Colorado River.
The setting is what Wolfdancer, east of town near Bastrop, such an anomaly. With holes that are wide open on high ground, holes on a ridge line as well as lower-lying, tree-lined holes along the Colorado River, it's simply one of the most unique and scenic rounds in the area.
The course, designed by Arthur Hills, is tough for a resort course, so be sure to play the right tees. This is certainly one of the best tests in Texas, particularly when the wind is up. But there are scoring holes, including multiple short par 4s.
But everything else about this facility, which is part of the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort, exudes luxury resort golf. We were offered cold towels after the 14th hole (quite welcoming on a 100-degree day), facilities and F&B are great, and course conditions were still very good despite the fact we've had no rain in about six weeks. Lesser area courses will get so baked out the ball rolls forever (and usually into gunch) around this hot and dry time of year.
With no homes surrounding the course and its laid-back but attentive ambiance, Wolfdancer certainly deserves its place atop Golf Advisor's Top 10 Austin-area courses right now (though I do believe River Place - at No. 2 - is excellent for the money as well and usually more affordable if you're more money-conscious).
Perhaps its most obvious rival is Barton Creek, but Wolfdancer has daily fee play while Barton Creek is open only to resort guests and members. So for the best no-strings-attached public golf experience around town, I think Wolfdancer is the no-brainer pick.
But you are going to have to score your ball, so show up with your A-Game!
Wolf
Staff made us feel like celebrities......course made us feel like we had just received our first golf clubs.
Great Track
As good as it gets for a course in Austin...Highly recommend...
Wolfdancer
Great course in great shape. Greens just aerated but still was fun. Very nice staff who took great care of us including cold wet towels for cooling off after 1st few holes.
Highly recommended!
Hot, Humid, but a great course!
I absolutely love this layout. Beautiful, green, scenic and plenty of wildlife to keep you entertained. The front 9 resembled a links style course, and the back 9 was more of an Augusta layout. Only issue was that the greens were being aerated, so it made putts a little rough, but overall the course was in great condition. The staff was hands down, one of the best golf course staffs i've ever been around. From the gentlemen at the register, to the lady at the snack stand, the starter, and the cart girl, they were all friendly and more than happy to accommodate my needs. the starter even let me go early with a gentlemen and his son. I Will definitely play here again. I've played a lot of courses in my day and the customer service was more than enough to bring me back. Hopefully the greens are better next time i play, but please don't let that deter you from an outstanding golf outing!
first rate golfing experience
Pros: great staff and employees who were attentive, friendly and helpful. a well designed and maintained course. beautiful, peaceful & serene. wide fairways with lots of high lipped sand traps, fast true, undulating greens and manageable rough just off the fairways. lots of thick native grass areas if you venture too far off the fairways.
Cons: $6.00 domestic beer; $3.50 soft drinks/pop. smart golf carts with course specific GPS systems, BUT the carts shut off and make u slowly back up with reverse sirens blaring (no u-turns) if you venture too far or into the wrong areas. Forces you to be mindful and attentive to more than your golfing problems. High end golfing experience ($99 or more).
Overall: Wish I were playing there now!
Long and Mean
This hidden gem is long and mean. It has always been in impeccable condition with tremendous practice facilities and a superb clubhouse. The par 5 number 3 hole is long and heavily bunkered.
It's a Hyatt facility so expect to pay $4 for a soda. However the golf attendants are very friendly and at your command from the time you park. It's expensive but again, it's a Hyatt resort. Greens are all superb.
Leelewis17,
We want to thank you for leaving such a thought out and detailed review. We are so glad you enjoyed your time at Wolfdancer. Like you said, as this warmer weather approaches, the greens will pick up a bit. We like the current condition of the course and we look forward to improvements when the growing season hits full force. Thanks again for the review and see you soon!?
Best,
Wolfdancer Management
