Challenging, Well Maintained Course

The course was in great shape and proved to be very challenging. The fairways are generous for the most part, so you want to hit them...if you don't, the rough is thick and can be difficult the hit out of. Several of the greens could have been in better shape, but all proved difficult. The deal we got from GolfNow was a steal, but I am not sure the round would have been worth it if we had paid full price.

Wolfdancer is a lot of fun to play.

There are some really tough holes mixed in with a couple of resort like cupcakes. The greens are the biggest challenge with plenty of undulation on most of them. When I played here in mid July 2013, the entire course had been aerated. I wish I had been told, or offered five bucks off, or something like that. It made for the some bumpy putts. I know it has to be done...just tell us about it. Overall a fine experience!

Course condition

When I called and asked if the greens had recently been aerated, the guy said "yes, but they are holding and looking great". Only to get there and they were aerated two days earlier and were the most terrible greens I have ever played on. A total waste of money.

I'm sure the course is great in the fall.

Challenge & Escape

Escape in more ways than one at Wolfdancer, part of the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort west of Bastrop. This property is a revelation in its sweeping country and river views, elevation changes, routing, and length -- all less than 5 minutes (and more than a few blood pressure points) from the bustling Austin-Bastrop growth corridor.

Fast, undulating greens will also give you the feeling of escape--if you leave the green in bogey or better. GPS in carts; USE IT to stay on the right side of the pin, usually underneath. Greens are fairly consistent throughout, so you'll probably get all the chance you need to gauge speed and break.

The amenities and course conditions are pretty well worth what you're paying, even if you think it's a little on the high side. This is not bargain seeker golf.

Best course in Central Texas, maybe all of Texas

Always pristine, beautiful, everything you would want in a golf course and then there is the excellent staff which is all about service with a smile and very friendly attitude, permeates throughout the entire staff. Great location for all of Central Texas, fabulous practice facility. This place has it all, highly recommend for all levels of golfers that don't mind having their game tested, sometimes to the max but under the best possible golfing conditions.

Great course, greens were in rough shape

Wolfdancer is one of my favorite courses to play in the Austin metro. Friendly staff and very helpful.

The issues I had with this trip (played 6/25/13 is that they had just verticut and top dressed the greens. Greens are at the top of my list when playing golf so this was a let down. The other disappointment I had is they are now handing out a bag of practice balls at the golf shop (bag may have 20 balls in them). They used to have the mini golf bags full of balls at each station on the range and you could hit as many as you would like while enjoying some good Texas country music. I hope they consider bringing back the mini golf bags at each station. For such a high end course to hand out a small bag of practice balls, it almost made it feel like playing a muni.

Good fun tough course

Had a great time was expecting a real difficuit course. Turned out to be great for us not too long hitters. Were able to keep score low by playing with the course. Easy fairways but tough tough greens. Can't wait to play it again.

Service Lacking For A Golf Resort Course

Played Wolfdancer on a recent Saturday afternoon. Since our family was staying at the resort and my son wanted to come with me, I asked before arriving if it was OK to have my son ride along with me. I was told "Sure, bring him with you, no problem. When I went to the cart area I was told that there were no extra carts available even though I saw over 50 carts sitting in an area right next to us. Three people sharing a cart on a course this hilly was quite an uncomfortable experience to say the least.
The course was challenging, somewhat scenic, but did not have any views or holes that were memorable. The course did not seem to be in top notch condition, especially for a resort course. For $99, you would be better off going to another top notch course where you undoubtedly would have a nicer experience than at Wolfdancer.

This justed to be a pristine coarse, who left in grounds keeping?

I play this coarse from time to time as the views are spectacular and it has always been maintained excellently. I have not been her in 6 months and to my surprise it is falling apart. I choose a bad day as they had just sanded the greens and putting was imposable but it was the bunkers that are useless and falling apart. There was water in most but even in dry ones they were hard as a rock and sides starting to fall over.. The view is worth the big bucks but don't expect a fun coarse to play on.

On behalf of me and my staff, I sincerely apologize for your bad experience. I do not wish to make excuses but we received 3/4" of hard, fast rain late Sunday afternoon. Because the verticut was scheduled for Monday morning with normal play beginning at 11:00AM, we did not have the resources to give the bunkers the attention they needed. On top of that, the rough was shaggy from not having been cut since the previous Thursday and there was still a lot of material on the fairways from their verticut as well. We strive to provide the best course conditions possible and on this day we did not meet that. Please feel free to email me at john.crall@hyatt.com as I would love to have you back out to play a round with me personally so that I may show you the true Wolfdancer experience.
Sincerely,
John C. Crall

Very Challenging Golf Course

This is a long course, full of hills and great scenic views. Tip: keep the ball on fairway or you'll have a lot of penalty shots. It is a very challenging course. My only complain is that the GPS on my cart did not work and that was a little frustrating and had to keep looking at my friends cart in every shot.

The rough is the main defense of this course.

This course has a decent layout, not exactly scenic in my opinion. Hazards are well placed and the layout has playing options. The real defense on this course is the rough. The first cut is about 3 inches and is catchy and gnarled like johnson grass. The second cut is flat out wild grass that is 8-12 inches and just finding the ball, let alone getting a club on it is the task. It was a worthy play, but for it's price, I will take other courses in the area that are just better.

Beautiful course on a beautiful day

Played at 9 am on a Saturday at half price with my dad. We were not paired up with anyone so got to ride by ourselves. No one pushing us from behind and no running into anyone in front of us. Great breakfast tacos at the starters shack and turn, free range balls included. Not an easy course for the faint of heart. Greens are super fast with some tough pin placements. Plenty of sand to be found, the occasional water hazard, and unforgiving rough.

Potentially the best non private course in Austin

Wolfdancer is a tremendous place to golf. The drive in through the woods is beautiful and certainly makes you feel like you are getting away from it all. The club house and grill are immaculate and amazing. High end clothing and a restaurant style grill make for a warm greeting. The practice facility is absolutely amazing, with music being pumped in through speakers to lighten the mood before the round. The starter house has drinks and food as well in case you didn't grab anything at the clubhouse. First hole is a challenging par 4 with a huge green so make sure you have the right club or you will be looking at a long putt. The course itself is a blend of links style golf and some tree lined holes. It is beautiful and secluded. You wont have houses on any side of you. There are a few drivable par 4's at the blue tee's that definitely provide risk reward. # 12 is called Top of the World and aptly so. A tremendous view overlooking the resort to a 125 yard par 3 downhill. If you have the opportunity to play this course for a decent rate ( I got 45$ ) then it is absolutely worth the drive and more. Only issue with this course can be the price for the drive. But I jump at every chance I can get to play here if priced accordingly.
