Very good experience
My wife and I played three straight days at the Resort Course. We have played here many times over the years and were very concerned after reading recent course condition reviews. The course from tee through fairway is in excellent shape. Despite recent drought conditions the greens were in much better shape than expected. Full coverage on all greens (except 12 which has been re-sodded and is currently shortened to a par-3 with temporary green in fairway). The greens rolled a bit slow but not so much as to take away from enjoying the rounds. Pro shop, clubhouse staff, and refreshment cart staff were all extremely nice and professional. Broke our hearts to see Palmer Course brown and shut-down in the distance, but we will definitely return to enjoy this course that was a PGA Tour host for many years and has some fun holes with great views of San Antonio.
Way Below standards!!!!!
This is a course I have played many times since 1998. Today was beyond awful. I knew they had aerated the greens earlier in the week because of the warning on golf now. The guy in the pro shop reminded me at check in. First the range was in rough shape, like everyone was backed up 10 feet just to get some grass to hit from. Second, when the starter came to get us, he stated that hole 12 was down and we would be playing to a “temporary green”. Well it was just a 100 yard to a random flag in the fairway, not a puttable green. Bad thing is that 12 is one of the best pat 4 on the course. 3rd nearly half the greens were almost unplayable because of patchwork sod job. Some greens were almost 1/2 rough sod, unputtable. It was embarrassing, as I am a resident of San Antonio and people are still being charged over $100 to play this. Golf Now should be refunding our green fees over this. I played with two men from Mexico and they were clearly disappointed at the conditions as well. I was lucky enough to find a “deal” at $60 but the men I played with paid nearly $200 for their rounds. I attached a photo of one of the greens. This is totally unacceptable as I am a frequent user of golf now. Do a better job of vetting courses.
Great Time
From the time you pull up till the time you leave it’s a 5 star service. They made sure to express their apologies for the condition of a few greens as the drought has hindered the grass from growing adequately. Other than that loved it!! Also the view on hole 7 was AMAZING!! Have your phone ready for some pictures.
We are thrilled you had a great time. The course conditions have improved significantly since you last played so we hope to see you again in the future.
Fun round
Class act from staff; sweet practice area; great views.and great hill country layout.
Patchwork Greens
Everything but the greens was in great shape. However, about half of the greens have major sections that have been recently resodded and the sod squares are hit or miss as to whether they are surviving. All of this makes putting a challenge, unless you hit them all within 10'. I do not.
I know it's hot, but other areas in some fairways were still soggy after 11:00 a.m, so they are watering.
Thank you for playing and commenting on the day. The team has worked very hard to get the greens restored. The course is in great condition, so please come out again soon. Thank you.
San Antonio Golf
Course conditions were good at this time of year Greens were fair but understandably it was hot And no rain
Great time
No Greens
Staff, coarse layout, amenities excellent, the worst greens I have ever seen for an elite coarse15 out of 18 were completely bare dirt. I hope the person got fired that messed them up.
Thank you for playing La Cantera and providing your feedback. We are aware of the herbicide damage we received on the greens this spring. We have been informing our guests prior to arrival. We have started to resod the needed areas June 22nd and will continue throughout the month. The greens will be vastly improved in 2 weeks. Thank you again.
Love the Atmosphere
This was a great experience. However, my date and I were pushed a bit in the front side despite being five to 10 minutes ahead of pace for a time. We were about a hole behind so some of that’s on us. The greens are in terrible shape. Course management is doing the best it can, but even sodding the worst places won’t keep management from shutting down the course to renovate the greens due to human error with chemicals. Still love the course - Hole No. 7 is a treat.
Thank you for playing golf at La Cantera and your nice comments on the atmosphere. We will be closing the back 9 for several days over the next few weeks to sod the remaining areas on the greens. The greens will be in normal condition in early July.
Everything was great, but the greens. They are un-playable. If you can look past this issue, the course has amazing views. The greens look like they need to be completely re-done. It's really unfortunate.
Thank you for playing La Cantera recently. We acknowledge the greens are not in good condition. The greens are improving and we will be sodding all the areas not filled in over the next few weeks. We should be back to normal conditions on the greens in early July.
Worst greens ever!!!
Saying they just “aerated” our greens is incredibly misleading! Worst greens I’ve ever seen, all patchy and some completely bare dirt, it’s really embarrassing. They should just close the course until this is fixed, pretty much unplayable. They blame weather when In reality someone just botched it big time! Great course ruined by the worst greens you will ever see.
Greens in HORRIBLE shape
Greens all burned out and basically unplayable. Go somewhere else.
Thank you for playing La Cantera. Please note that we are in the process of sodding all areas on the greens through the end of this month. We will be in good condition on the greens by early July.
Greens were absolute trash, they said it was aerated to give a slight discount but in reality it should have cost $50 or less to play here. They waited till we were at the tee box to tell us the greens had fallen into disrepair but tried to act like they were still playable, it was like concrete with the occasional lump of grass to throw your ball offline or into the air. Wouldn’t play here again.
Mr. Robinson,
Thank you for playing La Cantera recently and providing feedback. Our greens are struggling right now as you mentioned due to the timing of a fertility application. This was not predicted but the greens will be much better in the near future. Hopefully you enjoyed the conditions of the rest of the course. Thank you again.
Greens are ruined. They won’t get better this year. Your putt will bounce All over the place.
Thank you for playing and the comment. We acknowledge the greens are not good like the rest of the course. Please know, this was caused from a chemical application unforeseen. The greens are not ruined and should be significantly improved in the next 3-5 weeks. Hopefully you will consider playing La Cantera again in the future. Thank you again for the feedback.
Bad shape
The sad thing about this course is for the price you pay it should be the nicest course here in San Antonio. At this moment it is by far the worst option due to the greens. They should shut the course, rip up all the greens and redo all of them and be closed until they can get them in decent playing condition. I will not go back for a while after seeing how bad they were. Pretty sad due to the prices they try and charge for a round. Might be worth it if the round was $20 but geez it’s not worth paying anything over that.
They should shut it down!
Greens are the worst I’ve ever seen anywhere. All of them are completely trashed. Not worth it if it’s free!
Greens were in terrible shape
The greens were in terrible shape. Seemed they were dried out and poorly maintained. This is a course I play often and I have never had a bad experience. If I was told about this prior to the round, I would not write this review. But unfortunately the staff failed to mention anything about it. I have never played on greens that were this terrible. I wouldn’t be upset if the round was 30 bucks but for almost 90 I find it a little unacceptable. I will definitely play again but not until the greens are shown a little TLC. I will also have an issue sending my customers from my resort to go play the course.
Thank you for the feedback. The greens are showing progress but are still not up to par with our standards. They should be recovered in 3-5 weeks. Thank you again.
Thank you for playing and commenting on your experience. The greens should be faster on your next visit. See you soon!
