Moody Gardens
About Moody Gardens
Moody Gardens is a large resort and attraction area with a hotel, conference center and 18 holes of golf in the coastal town of Galveston, Texas. It is well known for its three pyramids home to an aquarium and rain forest attractions. It has not only an onsite waterpark but is next to Schlitterbahn as well. There are six dining concepts, as well as a spa and fitness center. It's within easy access to historic downtown Galveston, Pleasure Pier and the beaches. The golf course originally opened in 1989 but was totally redesigned by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy in 2008. This watery layout features scenic views of the gulf, bridges and bayous, and the back nine plays alongside the small Galveston airport. The course is links-inspired with gulf breezes and wall-to-wall paspalum turf. Historic Galveston is less than an hour's drive from downtown Houston, making Moody Gardens a popular day trip destination as well as for weekend vacation getaways.Facts

Beautiful and fun
cant go wrong playing here. course is in great shape.
Very nice course
Great course, greens were a little slow but in great shape. The ladies tee box for my wife were very close to the greens, especially the par 3’s. Overall a great place to play.
Nice course but…
This course is difficult to rate…. The course conditions were good; a little wet but it had just rained the night before so not unexpected and otherwise pristine. The staff was friendly enough, and our plying partners were a joy to play with. The layout itself is oddly challenging forcing you to take conservative decisions at every turn. When combined with a rapid pace of play expectation the result was a less than enjoyable round. At the price point for this course it just didn’t measure up. The experience was just simply not double or triple the value of the other golf course in the area. Nothing bad to say about the place; it’s just not special to justify the premium price.
Great course
Hit it low and hard and prepare for wind. Greens were rolling true
Great course
We had a great time. This course a bit challenging and there are some holes that don’t have a lot of forgiveness. The overall layout was great and the scene around the course was very nice. The course was in very good shape.
Moody GC in the winter
Great weather on this course for a December.
Wind is a factor making it 2-3 clubs extra when hitting into the ocean breeze.
Greens were excellent, fairways were very good, rough and off the fairways were challenging as well as some tee shots where placement is key. If you do not know where to hit, as well as the boundaries/ water hazards your score can escalate very fast.
I was making the turn at 3 over when I hit a couple errant shots that penalized me and I ended up shooting 80.
Great course and I definitely recommend this course… but be sure to play it with a local.
Awesome day, the course was in top condition.
This marks my 40th outing at this incredible course, a milestone that makes me feel like I’ve witnessed it all—from torrential rain to radiant sunshine. But today's round felt special, as I had the pleasure of bringing along two of my 20-year-old nephews. Their golf game has really taken off! Just a few years ago, I was dominating them, feeling like a mentor on the greens. Now, they've leveled up so much that I’m lucky to keep up with them!
We teed off at 10 AM on a chilly morning that surprisingly offered us a rare treat: minimal wind—a true rarity for an ocean-side course! This gem of a place has earned accolades as one of Texas's top public courses, and it’s easy to see why. The staff maintains it in pristine condition; as we rolled down the fairways, it felt like we were gliding on a cloud. The greens were immaculate, resembling indoor carpets with hardly a ball mark in sight.
I usually consider this a driver’s course, especially with its challenging long par 5s. The back nine typically brings those notorious two-club winds, but not today. The breeze was practically non-existent, and the temperature climbed to a delightful mid-60s. To top it off, we practically had the course to ourselves, with hardly any other golfers around.
All in all, we had a fantastic time soaking in the beauty of the day. It was an absolutely fabulous experience, one I won’t soon forget!
Nice course
Sadly, the weather prevented us from really enjoying golf this day. It was so windy our golf balls would blow sideways. It was very cold and windy we could not finish the 18 holes. Normally, we enjoy this course and will definitely play again.
Our main complaint is how horrible the mosquitoes are. They really need to do something about that. Even in the wind you get swarmed.
Price
The course was in great shape and staff was on their game. Understandable that it’s a vacation location but paying almost double for weekend play was the only disappointment.
Enjoyed the course!! Enjoyed the group we played with. Will definitely play here again
