Moody Gardens
About Moody Gardens
Moody Gardens is a large resort and attraction area with a hotel, conference center and 18 holes of golf in the coastal town of Galveston, Texas. It is well known for its three pyramids home to an aquarium and rain forest attractions. It has not only an onsite waterpark but is next to Schlitterbahn as well. There are six dining concepts, as well as a spa and fitness center. It's within easy access to historic downtown Galveston, Pleasure Pier and the beaches. The golf course originally opened in 1989 but was totally redesigned by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy in 2008. This watery layout features scenic views of the gulf, bridges and bayous, and the back nine plays alongside the small Galveston airport. The course is links-inspired with gulf breezes and wall-to-wall paspalum turf. Historic Galveston is less than an hour's drive from downtown Houston, making Moody Gardens a popular day trip destination as well as for weekend vacation getaways.Facts

Good Muni
Front 9 was very well maintained and fun to play. The back seemed to have a lot of construction and was not as well maintained.
I enjoyed my round of golf though and would come back and play again.
Great greens
I was pleasantly surprised of the conditions of the course for the hard weather changes we have had this winter. The greens were excellent. I got a hot deal from golf now and was able to play for over half off full price. The course was a great deal at this rate.
A True Test of Your Game
Moody is always a true test of your game - windy, a lot of water, and tight fairways. But it is also consistently in great shape. Full, fluffy bunkers and big, receptive greens. Green speed was just right also.
Friendly Staff & great condition
Staff was friendly as always from pro shop to starter. Took wife for her 1st visit and the 5 sets of tees make it an enjoyable experience for everyone of all levels. Fairways were maintained & greens ran pretty true. Always a little wind at the course, but overall you cannot go wrong anywhere from $30 to $70 for this course.
I'd definately recommend any area golfer give this course a shot at some point.
Couse has lots of water
Course was very difficult for my Wife. Better yardage to carry water would be helpful.
very nice greens
nice little island feel with great greens. fairly easy course with room to spray it.
too much money
Fees way to much for this course because of the tourist attraction ....lower your fees more people from houston would drive down to play .
Moody Gardens is a real treat!
First time playing the course, used to be Galveston Muni, but being the only public course on the island it has to be good! A lot of water and it gets pretty windy sometimes. Warning - you will hit every club in your bag! A really fun course and the whole experience as soon as you arrive is top notch. Cannot wait to go back! definitely worth the drive.
Moody Gardens a big upgrade over old muni
When this course opened a few years ago, it was night and day from the old Jack Snyder designed original Galveston Municipal. The new design by Peter Jacobson and Jim Hardy raised the course by several feet soy you could see water hazards, created mounding, interesting green complexes and bunkering, but best of all, grassed in with paspalum. I was wondering if those course conditions would be maintained over the long haul, and so far, so good: Moody Gardens is always in excellent shape. Better yet, the course is fun and certainly challenging, especially with the wind up and water on almost ever hole.
A real coastal gem
This is a Jack Snyder redo by JIm Hardy and Peter Jacobsen. The new course barely resembles the old. Raised fairways and greens allows you to see the hazards. Conditioning, beauty and playability are all night and day from what they used to be. Definitely worth the trip down from Houston. When its' windy, though, it's a real bear. Also, it's the only paspalum course in the area, a real looker.
Great course, one of my favorites!
Course is in excellent shape! staff is very accomodating.. I never played this course before they did the makeover, but I'll tell you that whatever they did sure got me obbsesed with it. Its hard not to enjoy this course when the weather is perfect, the wind is a bit of a factor but thats one of things I enjoy about it. The beverage cart girls seem like they know exactly when you need another drink and the pace of play is great! I find good deal on Golf Now from time to time and you can play this course for around 30$. I enjoy everything about this course.
It was a very challenging course but I really enjoy playing it. My wife was driving the cart and she had a wonderful time and met a another couple.
It was a very challenging course but I really enjoy playing it. My wife was driving the cart and she had a wonderful time and met a another couple. We met an elderly couple and had a lot of fun with them. My wife love the course layout and the beautiful view.
A great course in excellent condition and not busy especially as we played on the weekend.
My wife and I (visitors from England) thoroughly enjoyed everything about the venue and the course and a fairly strong wind made lots of the holes quite challenging but nevertheless quite enjoyable. Excellent value for money. We would certainly play it again if ever in the area.
A hidden treasure on Galveston Island ? Moody Gardens is a gem of a course. A tranquil and relaxing challenge
A very good municipal course. In great condition on day of play, with well maintained fairways and true rolling greens. Good eye appeal but the holes present a challenge for both the novice and well seasoned golfer. Knowing or learning how to play in the wind should improve your overall confidence and ball striking ability as you are likely to experience it here.Pricey by some standards for a muni, but you will know that you have been to a very good course regardless of your score. GO PLAY !!
Very good challenge.
Bring your best driver skills as this course demands it. Played from the back and was rewarded with some interesting shots. Makes you play every club in the bag. Greens were perfect, course conditions were top notch. If i ever get back to Galveston i'll be up for the challenge once again.
big greens
Played this course for over 25 years it is in the best condition ever.
Beachside course offers plenty of challenges.
Moody Gardens has recently undergone millions of dollars of improvements. Fairways and greens are in excellent shape. With four sets of tee boxes, golfers of all levels should enjoy. Depending how strong and which direction the wind is blowing the course could be had or punish you into submission. Most, if not all, fairways are generous. Strategically placed bunkers and water on several holes can wreak havoc. A few holes also have blind tee shots. If possible sneak up and take a look. Greens are large and sneaky fast.(See any resort course). Overall an excellent golf experience. My only complaint is that the pro-shop seems a little indiffernt.
Bring a few extra balls..
This was a fun course. I've lived galveston county for a while now and this is my first time to play this course. The course was in great shape. The greens and fairways were green. The scenery was decent. Like the title says, bring some extra balls, cause when the ocean breeze starts blowing there's no telling where your shot will end up
Great Condition
played 18 here yesterday. Course in great shape, tight and interesting. Breeze off the bay kept it much cooler than the inland courses.
Great course
Greens are in great shape, fairways excellent and I like the fact that you can choose a tee box that fits the level of challenge you want for your game. A great view and sea-side feel to the course. Will go back.
