Sonesta Bee Cave

About Sonesta Bee Cave
The Sonesta Bee Cave is located 20 minutes west off Austin off Highway 71 in the Hill Country Galleria, home to a collection of shops, bars and restaurants. There is no golf course onsite but there is shuttle service to the nearby Lakeway golf courses, including public Falconhead Golf Club, and the hotel does have some limited access to the private courses at the Clubs of Lakeway. The Sonesta Bee Cave features a large, outdoor courtyard pool, 10,000 square feet of meeting space and a 5,300 square foot ballroom. Lake Travis is minutes away where a marina can be accessed, and world-famous Hamilton Pool is also a short drive away. A highlight of the Sonesta Bee Cave is not only the galleria shops and restaurants but the hotel's own rooftop Meridian 98, which features cocktails and specialty plates in a lively setting that hosts live music.Facts

Course review
4th or 5th time to play here. Like the layout and variety of holes; elevation changes (for TX); pace of play for a Sunday afternoon wasn't bad - moved along. Looks like greens just aerated so not the best but that happens. Tee boxes need some help but fairways in good shape. once greens are recovered will be much better
Best condition in Austin right now
Somewhat tricky course. Fantastic condition. Pace of play was pretty slow until the group in front let us play through. Smooth sailing after that. Some cool hole layouts. Greens were in great shape, but smaller than I was used to. Loved the course, I’ll be back. Hole 9 needs a net on the right side, if you drive the fairway, you’ll struggle to find your ball amongst errant range balls.
Pace of play terrible
Course was in good condition. Couple greens had been cored and sand-covered, but overall rest of the course and greens played well.
The pace of play was terrible, we averaged over 20min per hole for an afternoon round, often waiting on the tee boxes for 10+ minutes or being backed up behind other groups on tee boxes. Super frustrating,
Save your time
Today was a 5 1/2 hour round. Last time was a 4 1/2 hour round. Time before that I gave up 4 hours and 14 holes in. Course was in great condition besides 2 and 3 greens. No marshaling and tee times 9 minutes apart. I will not be returning anytime soon.
The course was in good shape, the staff was friendly and the pace of play was great. The only downside to Falconhead is range balls are not included with your green fee.
If things don’t change, they remain the same
Haven’t played course in two years, because rounds took 4 1/2 to 5 hrs to complete, and the condition of the course was deteriorating. I thought that things may have improved so I gave it another try. Welp, nothing has changed except the cost has significantly increased. It took 4 1/2 hours to play on a Tuesday morning; there was a Marshall who we saw twice, but was not effective in getting the offending players to play anywhere close to a 4 - 4 1/2 hr round. Bunkers were packed sand, and some had the bedpan lining exposed. Some greens were partly beautiful, and part were no-grass. I really like the layout, but don’t think I’ll go back unless they significantly improve the experience.
Great Course Layout
This course has a great layout and friendly staff. If greens and tees were just a bit better condition it would have been amazing! Doesn’t take much. Greens still totally fine and playable
Overpriced!!!!
This course is not worth $129 per player considering how many bare, dirt, rock, or other lies when in or around the fairway. It's very much a target course with some exceptions, but with any cross winds blowing 10-20 mph you have no chance to keep it in play, and when the fairways are dormant or lacking in any type of grass your screwed! The pace of play is not very well monitored either which made for a long Monday!
too expensive on weekends. Also, they have you sign a release at the starter for the carts. seems redundant.
hotdog rating 7/10
Great course, terrible people/price
The course itself is great, but not worth the price and not worth the treatment (cart girls and bar staff excluded, they were awesome). Me and a buddy got paired with two older guys (those guys rocked by the way) and it was cart path only. Long story short we’re on 13 and the young Marshall came out and complained to the older gentlemen about the pace of play, mind you one of those guys is 74 and it’s cart party only, PLUS we had not seen a group in front or behind us ALL DAY and I called him out knowing something wasn’t right and our pace was good, turned out we were 15 minutes ahead of pace for the day. While being cart path only and with an older guy!!! The fact that falconhead collectively got over $450 from our foursome and then complained to us about pace of play in adverse course conditions when we were ahead? On principal I can’t recommend this course to anyone based of that experience.
Management has given up
This is the sister course for Avery Ranch and Teravista. They share one owner. They also have in common that it's obvious they're cutting costs. There hadn't been rain in several days but there was standing water all over the course. There was no consistent overseeding, which made fairways uneven. There was sand randomly placed on greens, faireways and tee boxes to obviously compensate for the moisture. There was damage to quite a few greens, which made it impossible to predict how to play from one hole to another. Small one here, but highlights the cost cutting... our cart number was written on the cart with a green sharpie. Terrible course for the cost. Probably worth $25-$35 for a mid-Monday tee time.
Greens are in check!
Course is great! Absolutely not a course for people who play slow! Slow golf if bad golf, even if you think you're actually good at golf and you play slow your not good. Golf 101 keep pace with the people in front of you! No matter your age or your skill level just play fast.
There are really great golf simulators popping up all over!! Great place for slow golfers!!
Spring day in the winter time
Great shape for just coming off of a 6 day hard freeze. Grouping was fun and pace was good for how busy it was.
