1st Timer
A fun course to play, especially for new golfers, seniors and anyone with only 2 hours to play. It’s a nine hole course that you can play 18 by using different T boxes.
Play while you can before this course goes away!!
One Criticism
On several holes, the “Carts Off The Fairway” signs were around 100 yards from the green. That’s too far, With the high berms on the sides of the fairways one cannot get a good distance reading if you have to leave the fairway that far out. Also, and this is personal too me, I,ve had several knee operations, and getting off the fairway that far out creates more walking than I can easily handle. 50 yards I can understand, but 100 is too much,
As advertised, incredibly beautiful, challenging and terrific, helpful staff at every encounter….
Situated steps from Colonial Williamsburg, this course meanders through undulating hills and valleys, with spectacular views and interesting golf challenges at every turn. There is water on 5 or 6 holes, a fair number of doglegs and narrow to moderately wide fairways. This course is beautifully landscaped and surrounded by old growth woods. Fairways and greens were “carpet like”. Yes the Par 3’s are picturesque, but so is the rest of the course.
This is a top 100 course that is not ridiculously hard, but will challenge you, especially with your second shot into downhill and uphill protected greens that have a tendency for low liners to roll off the green, sometimes into the protective bunkers.
Staff was friendly and positive, even meeting us at our car with a cart and providing complimentary bottles of water at hole number one. Get there early if you can… good practice area (be sure to practice putting and sand shots) and if you can play with someone with course knowledge, all the better.
Great value for a terrific venue, in outstanding shape.
I will play it again
First time playing. They have some serious bunkers and moguls to contend with, should you stray too far off the faraway. Overall, the course was in good shape. It’s a long course. If you are a big tee shot and second shot type of player, the course may not present a challenge, but has just enough distance for 230-250 yard crowd. It was fun and I would like to play it again.
Great course
I like it way better then the gold course. Plays through the woods and very secluded unlike the gold course plays on top of each other. This is one of my new favorite courses and for sure a top 5 for the 757 area! It’s a must play at $45 dollars for 18
Hidden Treasure
The Green Course is always underrated. It is just as much of a challenge as the Gold Course...I really like this course!
Great track
The layout is excellent. 6,300 yards from White and 7,100 yards from the tips. Fairways were in very good shape. Course has good character. The greens are in nice condition but roll very slow. At $50 with cart for mid-week play, it is hard to beat.
Dry, But in Good Condition
Clearly, the Williamsburg area has not received much rain. I noticed the ponds at The Green were very low and looked like they were only 1/4 full. There were certainly some dry, hard-packed areas on the fringe of some greens (not too many), and around the paths leading into the fairways. But the fairways were in good shape, as were the bunkers. Additionally, the bunkers were manicured and edged nicely. The greens showed no signs of aeration (earlier reviews) and they were extremely fast with some tough reads. The only area which really showed the need for TLC were the tee boxes...they were almost bare of grass. I love the layout of this course, the mounding bordering so many of the fairways, and the "forest" feel (no houses on the course). The staff are always welcoming and helpful as well.
In need of a lot of help
I can honestly say that this is the worst course I played in Williamsburg. It clearly needs help. The Gold course gets all the attention. They did not accept or confirm GN tee time that I requested which was cheaper than a rate to a group I was playing in. At least 13 tee boxes have very little grass. While it did rain a bit the week I played, it was soggy. The greens were the worst I have played in years. Aeration with finger size holes was done 3 weeks ago, so I was told, but they had not healed or top dressed properly. Personally they were punched to early as the course gets very little sun until close to noon and sits in a low area. I would not recommend this course for at least 2-3 months. Williamsburg National is in great shape.0
Horrible
How can you even charge any money for this course ???
Playing in a tournament on the US Am tour and the conditions were horrific.
Fairways were mostly dirt and the rough was very patchy.
The greens were punched with huge holes that weren’t even filled with sand.
The greens were awful and unputtable ....... ridiculous.
Even the practice range was all dirt ........ why don’t you put us on the mats at least. Full course on a Saturday and no beverage carts
I will NEVER spend another dime here EVER
Today the course was in good shape. They had just recently aerated so the greens where a little bumpy but that’s understandable. The only thing that was little challenging was the bunkers seems to be hard. But I guess if would have stayed out of them, they would not have been that bad LOL ! Overall great courses. I will be back!
Ideal playing conditions
First time playing this course and enjoyed the challenges . Staff very friendly and accommodating. Looking back to playing it again.
Golf in February
I regularly play this course and for this time of year it was in great shape, considering all the rain and snow we’ve had over the last couple of weeks!
