Devil's Head Resort
About Devil's Head Resort
Devil’s Head Resort in Merrimac in Sauk County has grown from a small ski resort to one of Wisconsin’s best ski-and-golf destinations. The resort opened in 1970 with a 92-room hotel, four chairlifts and 10 runs in 1970. Today, Devil’s Head offers two golf courses, 138 hotel rooms, more suites and condos, six dining options, a conference center and more chairlifts and ski runs. Art Johnson designed both courses, Glacier and Prairie Glen. Glacier navigates a maze of elevation changes with rugged features of rock out-croppings and water on seven holes. Prairie Glen offers its own challenges with island greens and plenty of water and traps.Facts

Great course carved into the Baraboo Bluffs
Beautiful views and course was in good shape...for going on the 4th of July I would ha e expected multiple beverage carts on the course but we only seen 1 at hole 5 and never had any service again!
Enjoyable Yet Somewhat Challenging
The two courses at Devil's Head were in great shape, the price for unlimited golf was great, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the weather was beautiful -- couldn't ask for much more!
Great Course for the Average Golfer
Other than the bunkers, I love this place. Friendly staff, especially at the starter shack. The bunkers contain BIG rocks, nearly unplayable. Otherwise, very scenic, fun, and not overly difficult. I will be back. Also, the jalapeño bacon cheeseburger in the bar is INCREDIBLE! !!!!! Good service too! !
Will be better in time
Great layout Makes you play all the shots. Course just needs time to mature but still worth playing.
great views
i tied my lowest round ever for 18 holes and shot an 84. the greens weren't in the best of shape and they had been aerated. it was a very windy day with gusts of about 30mph and much of the sand on a couple of the holes had blown off the aerated greens making them quite bumpy. still a great round, looking forward to the grass growing and filling the holes in.
Many challenging holes with beautiful views
we were greeted by a very friendly staff and the pro was very helpful. We had later tee times but the staff sent us out earlier because there were some openings on the course. We loved the beautiful view on the Glacier course. We would play this course again bringing more of our friends to this course.
great course
I played the Prairie Glen and really enjoyed it. A caution to everyone about the sand traps. There were a lot of stones in the traps and more sand needed.. I am really surprised this has not been taken care of.
poorest conditions i played on this year (100+ rounds)
every green had burned out spots, sprinkler heads leaking with big mud patches, fairways looked good but had more mud and thin spots, had to find a spot with grass to try and hit without mud and dirt. tee boxes were not cut and very patchy grass. only bright spot was the fall colors.
Awsome course!!!!
This course was beautiful!!!! I have only golfed 3 times and this course was amazing. The scenery was great, course was in excellent condition!! I would highly recommend this course to anyone. Some say it is pretty hard but I've only golfed 3 times and I shot an 87 out of 72!!!
Pretty tight course!
You better have a straight ball! If you go off the fairway, forget it. You won't find it. Hit another one. The views were breathtaking. Over all, had a great time.
Devils head
The course was nice some greens have issues very minor a uneek course with a cool par 3 that drops like 120 feet
Nice course
Never played here before...greens pretty shape some beat up spots..they rolled nice. Fairways good shape. Tee boxes pretty good shape...some up level lies..I would recommend.
really liked the course
Good condition. Love the layout. Challenging but fair.Couple of the greens spotty. Will play again.
challenging and narrow in spots
had a flat tire on our cart on the first hole. we were new to the course and didn't exactly know where the next hole was all the time, so we drove around lost quite a bit. other than that the course was in OK shape some of the greens and tee boxes needed some attention.
fun course spectacular setting
Have played Devil's Head for 30+ years. Family owned resort which is more interested in the ski business. Course has never been known for its condition, fairways are often rough and hard and greens are inconsistent and notoriously slow. The conditions between the original 18 and the two nines added later are quite inconsistent. Currently, the greens on the original "glacier" 9 are in the best shape.
The good news is this course is built on a spectacular piece of land, it resembles a foothills environment with elevation changes unlike nearly anything you will find in Wisconsin. So the layout is a lot of fun to play and if you keep the ball in play
you can score well and have a blast. The course has a remote feel and the scenery is fantastic. I really think this place is one of the best kept secrets in Wisconsin, and could be developed into a world class golf resort if somebody bought it.
As far as value, the standard rate is high for 18 but they are offering a lot of discounts these days, and the annual "2 for 1" which runs through Memorial Day, and includes unlimited golf, is one of the best deals anywhere. They charge an outrageous $6 for a can of beer and the resort food is nothing special.
father son outing fun day
Course has been updated and new holes with links flavor offer a variety of shots for any skill level the course needs some rain but we played in around 3 hrs
Very disappointed
Beautiful course, in the right hands could be very nice. Greens were pathetically slow, fairways were spotty. Carts were in bad condition. Cart paths were broken up. Sand traps were sand less and unraked. Pace of play was good. Very serene and quiet, just a shame it isn't kept up. For a resort I just expected much more. Drinks and food incredibly over priced.
Hidden Gem
We have played the course several times this summer. We love the Glacier. Private and beautiful. Beer is very expensive, but the golf was very reasonable. Overall, I give the experience an A.
Quality course and challenging
Awesome hot deal rate through GolfNow. I would recommend this course to all players just be ready to hit it straight, some tight fairways.
Beautiful views from the glacier!
We have played here before, and they have had made it a bit more challenging by letting the grass grow between many of the holes. This has given it more of a links course feeling with the subtle difficulty of keeping the ball away from the grass. The greens were in great shape-not all chewed up like some other resort courses. As usual, the help is all super nice and go out of their way. They are due for some new golf carts...after golf we recommend dinner there. Awesome!
