Devils Head Resort & Convention Center - Glacier Course

I never leave reviews and I hate to do this, but I feel I should warn other golfers. The staff here were great so that is something. However, the course itself is rough. Layout is great, views are great and could be a great course. But the conditions are some of the worst I have ever seen. Some greens were very dried out/ dead/ hard as rock/ brown and very very fast. Some greens had big patches of dirt and mud. A few of the greens were very nice and lush but not mowed any time recently and very very slow. The variance in putting/ approach conditions made it very frustrating. Cart paths require careful attention to any open beverages. Multiple “fairways” where a well hit tee shot was hard to find because the grass was so long, similar to the rough on other courses (nothing like catching a flier out of the fairway). Other fairways were quite sparse and had many bare dirt patches. Some bunkers are nice, some quite literally have 100s of golf balls sized rocks with a few fist sized rocks in them. Should be a $30 course.

Overall this place was in pretty rough shape and the other reviews regarding the course needing a ton of uplift and maintenance are pretty accurate. No clubhouse here, just a little snack shack and both of the attached bathrooms were out of order so I had to walk up to the hotel which was completely empty. I literally didn’t see a single person in the hotel before or after the round, it was a little creepy. They had a bev cart but it was not being used, and the course does not lead back to the snack shack at the turn.

A lot of the other reviews talk about the greens being poor but honestly the greens were the best part of the course. The tee boxes and fairways were awful. This place definitely has a lot of potential and natural beauty but the seeming lack of care outweighs the pros for me and I probably wouldn’t return.

This is a very unique course, Very pretty, lots of elevations and blind holes. It gets some grief from other reviewers because of the condition of the some of the greens at times, but unless you're a golf snob, just enjoy the layout.

Fabulous day of Golf. Staff was the best. Look forward to next year.

Everything was great there was a few greens that need work but other than that a great course

I've always loved getting out to Devil's Head. The course is is in a beautiful location and the views from some of the holes are stunning. That said, the upkeep is a little underwhelming. Most hours are fine, but some of the fairways and greens were pretty rough. This could easily be a destination course. It needs some TLC though.

Course was in decent shape. This could be a premiere golf destination if they would hire a good grounds keeper. There were a lot of things that could use some attention.

the location of the course is wonderful and there are some great views of the valley. The course was in terrible condition. Tee boxes were dead and hard, sand traps were like concrete, and several greens were dead. The cart paths were all ripped up and there was debris all over the course. That may have been due to a recent storm, but it was a mess.

Even though there were 2 beverage carts at the club house, none came around the course while we were there. Thankfully, it was a cooler afternoon, so the lack of service was not as noticeable.

While the layout was nice, it felt more like a city course. For $70 I'll pick a different course. This could be a very good course, but too pricey for what it is.

The pizza at the bar after the game was very good, and they get points for serving Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, on tap.

This nicely designed course through the woods of Wisconsin is suffering financially. Tee boxes and fairways need a lot more water; the greens while still lush were soft and slow. Carts were quick, and there are lots of them. Played in 3.25 hours so all this works for me!

I liked everything about this course, EXCEPT

40 percent of the greens were not playable due to condition.

I might go back “IF” I knew the greens were better

4 or 5 greens are unplayable. Holes and chunks of sod, never in my 45 years of playing have i seen worse conditions. really can"t believe they charge money for thjs. Close down for the year and hire a new superintendant.

Can’t state enough how terrible of conditions this course is in. The course needs a new owner or they need to put some money into it. The glacier course has unplayable conditions on every hole. Some holes look like they haven’t been maintained for a long time. I know $59 doesn’t sound that expensive but it’s way too much for this course which does have some nice views. I’d love to see the course stick some time and money into it to improve it. But easily the worst Course conditions I’ve seen personally. Save your time and money and play Baraboo or Reedsburg which are pretty close in proximity. Very very disappointed in my experience.

My guess is the course is really struggling financially.

One of the worst conditioned courses I’ve played on. Greens were very slow and a couple were unplayable. Until there are new owners or they put more money into the course, stay away. Paid $60 on golf now and I can still say I feel like I was ripped off due to the poor conditions of the golf course. Unfortunate because it could really be a nice course with some really nice views of the bluffs. But it is an absolute dump and you should steer very clear from this course.

The employees were all friendly and respectful and helpful. The course layout was really good with many picturesque views. It was also very fair scoring wise. However the conditions of the course were very poor, with many of the greens in really rough shape.

I know that Wisconsin is experiencing a drought, but they certainly should be able to get a handle on taking care of the greens.

I would try to play here again if I could be sure the greens were taken care of.
