Grand Geneva Resort & Spa
About Grand Geneva Resort & Spa
The Grand Geneva Resort & Spa is a sprawling 1,300-acre, AAA Four Diamond property, home to 355 rooms and 29 new villas. It's a four-season destination with the Mountain Top ski and snowboard facility and the 225-room Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark, an indoor-outdoor waterpark. Sandwiched between Milwaukee and Chicago, Grand Geneva invites city slickers to enjoy the laid-back lake life for a while. It started out as the Lake Geneva Playboy Club, part of Hugh Hefner’s empire. That chapter closed in 1981. Eventually, the property rebranded as a luxury golf resort in 1994 with fine dining and conference facilities for corporate clients. The Highlands and The Brute roll over hills and water hazards, creating distinct theaters for challenging and memorable golf. The WELL Spa + Salon, located in a separate fitness building, offers more than 65 treatments and services.Facts

Always Fun to Play
This is the old Briarpatch by Pete Dye and Jack Nicholas.
The redesigned has made it more playable and enjoyable. Great condition and fun to play.
Great conditions, a lot of variety
This course is a lot of fun to play, has excellent practice facilities and is in great condition. I have paid much more for a lot less. This is a great value, I highly recommend it.
Great course.
We played The Brute in 1980 on our honeymoon and decided to play it now for our 40th anniversary as we were driving through Wisconsin. We were rewarded richly for our expenditure. Grand Geneva has a great stay and play option that gave us overnight stay plus golf for each of us for slightly more than the cost of the room itself! The course was magnificent and the staff was very helpful. Food was great and the greens were fast and held a ball well. We will not wait 40 years to return!
Experience on the greens a huge negative
7100+ from the tips. Long.
Practice facilities: excellent. Putting green, chipping green, gratis 400 yd driving range. Best I have seen in WI.
Signage: poor
In cart GPS: Excellent.
Layout: unexpected and extreme elevation changes are frustratingly fun and encourage one to learn the course for next time. Sadly there won't be a next time for us.
Fairway rough: fair and survivable; able to find your ball and return it to play but you'll be laying up most times.
Trees: heavily treed and beautiful; mature. Beware sneaky 30'-50' overhangs on teeboxes & anywhere but center-cut.
Bunkers: 3.3 traps per hole average. Challenging fairway bunkers make it play 300-500 yards longer. Plenty of sand in each so you can extract without throwing mudpies. Also best I have seen on WI publics.
Greens: generally HUGE and receptive but w/ inexplicable extreme slopes. Slick and fast (11-12 on Stimp this date)
Pin placements: fkn ridiculous. Each hole was slashed thoughtlessly into the face of one of the many random 4‐6 degree slopes making hitting the green penal; 3-puttable even if hit to 6 feet. Not just merely 'difficult pins.' ... fkn RIDICILOUS decisions were made with seemingly no regard for approach angles or green topography. Literally unplayable, making no sense for a course this long and regal, regardless of skill level. Ruined our experience.
You will use every club in your bag. Keep it under 100 (if you can) and you're winning. I play to a 7 hdcp. 96 and 99 were our scores. Not bitter or whining- just ain't going back.
First class in every way!
Always heard how tough and beautiful the Brute is. Everyone is correct. Course is fair and challenging. I’m a 90’s hack but had my opportunities for birdies and pars throughout the day. Elevation changes were magnificent but added more challenges on most holes. I played the gold tees so I didn’t have to hit hybrids or fairway woods into each hole.
slow play
Extremely slow play . A couple of 4somes were holding up play .No marshall to help . I hate teeing off with an audience . We were bunched up waiting at every other tee box .
Hello, thank you for reviewing the course. We apologize for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. With an uncharacteristically full day, we work hard to accommodate everyone who visits our course and allow our guest the chance to complete their rounds. With that in mind, we are working to best control pace and allow everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve. Thank you for playing Highlands at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa. We hope to see you again soon.
Great layout. Great conditions.
Played the day after two inches of rain. Greens were still firm, fast and true. Course was in great condition. Very scenic course with NO houses or condos and lots of wild life. We will return.
PERFECTION ... First time playing here and I fell in love with the course . Thank you Golf Now for making this possible .
A little tricked up
Good course with good layout. Only negative. Sand is beach sand and whoever’s sets pins does not play golf. Unfair pin placements
Twilight Delight
Got out on the Brute 7/28 with a 3:39 tee time. Staff were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The price for guests staying in residence is outstanding ($39.00 with cart) and the course despite its name is very beautiful with amazing vistas from several tee boxes. The greens are huge and challenging, the fairways wide yet require accuracy to stay out of trouble as water, sand and trees come into play on numerous holes. This is a must play course for golfers visiting the area.
Great value
Absolutely the best value in area. Great layout in fantastic condition. I drive 1 hour to get on this Trac. Any serious golfer must play this great course!
Great course
Nice elevation changes throughout the course. Overall conditioning of the course was good, greens could’ve been cut just a little shorter, otherwise conditioning is great. Layout is nice. Staff was very pleasant and helpful.Definitely will be coming back and bringing some friends.
Nice layout, visually very interesting
Overall the course is pretty generous though it looks really tough from most of the tee boxes. You really have to think about your shots to land in the right areas and avoid driving through fairways on the doglegs. Greens are huge and undulating, but they're cut somewhat conservatively making them reasonable for your average golfer. If they had cut them short, there were some pin positions which would have made them close to impossible.
Hello, we appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting Brute at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa. We hope to see you again in the future.
