Great layout. High degree of difficulty
Play this course. Challenging approach, very tough greens, well bunkered, all that said, a great experience to play. Great vistas
Wish I knew
Wish I knew in ADVANCE that the greens were just punched and sanded. I would not have played. Golf Now should have been informed.
Beautiful
Course was in great shape. We played 2 rounds. The first took 3:15 and the second was in 5. Not sure why it was so slow. Always love playing this course though!
Fun course
Very nice course in great condition. Greens very fast and a little tricky to read. Friendly ztafg.
Fun track, great day of golf
Beautiful course, well maintained. Challenging but fair. Greens were sandy due to previous week’s State Amateur qualifier.
Rain day
Played in lite rain all day. Course was very wet, cart path only. Sucked it up and had a great day! Love this golf course. One of my top five in this state!
Wild Rock
Course was great. The only problem was it was pouring rain and we could only play 9 holes before we had to get off because of the weather . Everything else was great. We will have to come back on a nicer day.
Great views - good conditions - fast and true greens!
Course was set up nice and is well maintained - especially the greens. Love the cart GPS to keep things moving. I look forward to coming back 1-2x/year!
Wild Rock
Always one of my favorite courses. Took my brother, who is from Austin Texas, and he loved it!
Great support staff.
Rugged and Beautiful
Wild Rock is a Hurdzan and Fry designed gem in the Wisconsin Dells area. Built on and around an old rock quarry, there are wild elevation changes, and the quarry comes into play on a few holes. The design is really fun and has a rugged look to it in a lot of places.
For the most part, the fairways are pretty wide and forgiving at Wild Rock, but big misses will be punished. There are also several holes with center-line bunkers, which forces the player to make a decision off the tee. I found they were pretty easy to miss, but definitely made me think.
The conditions were really good. They had gotten a lot of rain the day before I played, but the fairways still had some roll to them and the greens weren't overly soft. The greens were not overly fast, but rolled pretty true.
The greens themselves were very tricky. There were several times members of our group thought we hit good shots, only to arrive at the green and find our ball on the wrong side of a hidden slope. It's definitely a course that will be easier played a 2nd time.
A word of caution on booking tee times. I recommend booking on the website, because it seems you get better rates that way. We had a larger group (8 players) so I booked through email, and ended up paying the rack rate. A quick inspection later indicated we would have been better off booking through the Wild Rock website rather than working directly with the pro shop.
Overall Wild Rock is a fun, challenging and beautiful course that is rugged around the edges. I would definitely play again.
My favorite hole is the par 4 12th. It's a long par 4 from an elevated tee. You have to aim at the rock wall in the distance, and then play a precise approach shot to a heavily sloped green.
