About
One of several masterpieces in his storied, decades-long design career, Whistling Straits is perhaps the most uninhibited expression of Pete Dye’s creative vision. More than 1,000 bunkers dot a completely manufactured landscape stretching along more than two miles of Lake Michigan coastline and simultaneously invokes both Ireland and the surface of the moon. No one mixes intimidating golf shots with breathtaking natural beauty like Dye, which helps make super-scary par 3s like the 249-yard 17th, called “Pinched Nerve,” among the most exhilarating in the game. Not only is the Straits a bucket-list resort destination golf course, it is also the host of several memorable championships: three PGAs (2004, 2010, 2015) and the 2021 Ryder Cup.
