Neat Layout and Fun Play
We were visiting the west side of Wisconsin on our drive to the Twin Cities. Stopped to play here on the way through. The course was nice. Conditions were green and even with the hot weather, things were in good condition. We really enjoyed the undulation changes and the different shots needed across the different holes. It is a well-thought-out layout. My main suggestion would be around Service. When you are paying this much for a course, you expect a little bit of extra. Nobody loaded our clubs. Nobody explained the putting green and practice facilities. The cart attendant could not tell us where the first tee was. Although it was in the 90s, there was no water on the course. We did stop after a hole 11 to get some, but literally had to wait at the bar 15 minutes to buy drinks. The restaurant was operating, but people seem to ignore us. Improve the service and experience and this would be a really neat, must see course.
A bit soggy, but nice in spite of being cart path only.
My wife and I played all 18 together. This was her first time playing the back 9. A nice layout, but being cart path only made it a bit more difficult to determine distance and club selection. Being early in the year, it was not as pretty either. Still a very nice track and we would recommend it to anyone.
Play it now!
I have played here 7 times or so. Let me preface my next comment by saying I have never been unsatisfied playing there. This is the nicest I have seen the course. It is definitely the gem of Eau Claire. I have played in every corner of the state always trying to find something fantastic. Now, with a family, I will be very happy to save on travel and stay close to home (25 minutes) as Wild Ridge has the difficulty, beauty, challenge, and quality that I criss-crossed the state for in my younger days.
Great instructor
I took lessons from Jim. Worked wonders for me as I was just beginning to play. He taught me the basics of set up and helped me become a better ball striker. Highly recommend him. As for the course it is a fun course. The layout makes up for the crowdedness. As with most courses call ahead to avoid leagues. Otherwise you may be waiting on every tee box.
