Was disappointed in the front desk service. Barely recognized, no greeting from the pro/AP standing right there and no attempt to get me out - a solo- aheqd of a foursome.
Overpriced, Uninspired Layout, Poor Conditioning
The Links is possibly the worst bang for your buck in the Central New York area. The course is set on low-lying, swampy land, with several areas of stagnant water which harbor significant black fly and mosquito populations. The course also wraps around a sewage treatment facility which is pungent, especially on hot, humid days. Several holes are almost always "cart path only" because of unresolved drainage issues. The course is largely flat, with a lot of artificial water, similar to many Florida courses. In the heat of the summer, several areas of the course move beyond "firm and fast" and into concrete territory, making them generally unplayable. The layout is very boring, and the green speed can vary significantly from hole to hole, negating player's skill. Cultural practices on the playing surfaces are neglected, resulting in significant lateral growth that is resistant to reel mowers and generates grainy and unpredictable surfaces. Bunkers are largely unmaintained, most are entirely unplayable and risk damaging your club if you choose to play out of them - there are weekly leagues at this course who don't require their players to play from the bunkers for this reason. There are several gimmick holes which may fool higher handicap players, but are easily navigated by more intelligent players. The proshop is almost non-existent and poorly stocked. Much of this could be forgiven at a lower price for a tee time, but at over $60, players in Syracuse will find much better value at a similar price point elsewhere nearby. The clubhouse is nice with a good wedding venue and bar, perhaps the only redeeming quality of the facility overall.
Almost Excellent… except for
… the bunkers. Literally has gravel-sized rocks in the bunkers (all of them). There’s no sand—it’s all rocks. I would not even hit from there with my clubs because you may as well be hitting off of a gravel cart path. . For such a beautifully kept course, why can’t they just go get some sand !??
What a value
Had no idea it was as nice as it was some of the best fairways I've seen. Well maintained greens. Quality tee boxes. Overall beat value dollar I spent on green fees this year.
Always a good choice
Great course. Challenging layout. Keep your driver in the bag on many holes.
Overhyped
Slow play. Expensive. Either muddy or shaggy. Fairways and greens good; tees a mess, bunkers totally shot. Golf design is mediocre. Ponds near most holes make it punitive. Can’t hold pga sanctioned events because of poor upkeep and excessive tree growth and power lines across several holes
Awesome
Great course
Six some
Decent pace until 5. Caught a six some that showed mo thought of letting us through. Skipped 2 holes. No place tk have a drink or eat after. Course in very good shape, greens wonderful
Great day
Rained and the snack bar was closed... definitely cleared up and could of been open...still a lot of golfers
Fantastic layout
Great course, would be nice to be geeted with a smile, don't like having to go back out to get a security paper for the cart, really don't like getting in a filthy cart with a sticky substance all over the dash and a maybe, hey, how was your game. But, I spent the winter in Florida and forgot what NY is like.
