Staff are not friendly, and lack common sense but where else are you gonna play? So I guess we’re stuck and we’ll deal with it.

Great value for the money

Even considering the drought,.... the course is still in pretty decent shape. Some of the tee boxes could have some grass seed rakes in to make them more even and thicker. The fairways are dryer than normal bit still hittable. The greens are well watered and fine. The greens are.very deceptive with reading the breaks. The views are great. The cart.paths are rough and kind of beat you up as you drive around. For the money,.... a GREAT AND FUN COURSE!!

A fun course

The greens are deceptive with the breaks. They are in good condition. The fairways are pretty dry, bit 8n all fairness we are and have been in a drought. S9me of the tee boxes could use some new grass seed. They are a little baron. The cart paths are pretty rough. All that aside, it 8s a course built for those that hit the long ball. Rolling fairways require a pretty straight tee shot. The surrounding mountains are just gorgeous to see. A plus are the local pronghorn herd 5hat wander the course.

Carts falling apart.

A very underated course

I play on 6 different courses in the Mcallen, Texas area during the winter. Average tee cost os around 45.00 including cart. The courses are much dryer, the fairways are cut almost to the same height as the greens making it difficult to get under the ball. The tee boxes are not near as nice and the greens are worse. I pay an average of 30.00 here at this course. You can hit off the fairways and actually have a divot, the greens are very consistant with their speed due to a good watering schedule. You can actually get your tee in the ground in the tee boxes. Their cart paths are in very poor shape. Beside that, it is a good course to play! Itnis VERY AFFORABLE! The views of the surrounding mountains are nice.

Great course for the money

Course conditions were above average. Neen pretty dry here in thiz are. Greens and tee boxes were in good shape. Fairways a little dry bit very hittable. The staff could improve the signage on how to get to the next hole, especially 4, 7, 13. A little confusing. The cart paths will beat the stones out of yoir kidneys. They are in sad shape. The views are noce of the surrounding mountains. The course is never crowded. It is a long course with deceptive breaking greens. Pronghorns make for a good photo!

A fun course

The course is long. The fairways, while undulating, and plenty wide are well kept. The tee boxes are being repaired on several holes making it a bit confusing on which one to play. Most of the greens are in good shape. Some could use some repair work. They are well layed out. The signage to get around from hole to hole could be MUCH IMPROVED. If you are not familiar with the course it can ne pretty confusing. The actual "cart" paths are in really bad shape. They do have several porta potties to use at strategic locations. The mountain scenery above the course is SPECTACULER! FOR THE PRICE,...... a GREAT COURSE TO PLAY!!

Sad conditions

Embarassing! Pot hole filled cart paths, lacking in signs for directions to the next hole, clover galore, ver old carts, tee boxes without grass, sand bunkers full of weeds…

OMG

I have never seen so many dandelion's on a golf course Hit a drive in the middle of the fairway and look for 3 minutes to find. The tee boxes were trash and the cart parts were quite funny how crappy they were. This was a 123 worst course Ive ever played and it has Gary players name on it blows me away. .05/10. is my worst course every played

Great Design, Poor Conditions

We’ve played quite a few Gary Player designed courses (this is a Signature design) and always enjoy them. This track is another good design. Challenging holes and beautiful scenery. Having said that, we were disappointed with our visit. The course conditions were terrible with lots of bare patches in fairways and bad grass in most greens. We were told this was a tough winter, but it’s nearly July. The rough hadn’t Been mowed in a while. You could be 6 inches off the fairway and be in 3” rough or 1’ rough. Lost several balls that weren’t more than a foot off the fairway. Looks like the economy hasn’t been good for this course. Too bad. As the wife said, this would be a great course...somewhere else.

Off the Beaten Track, But Worth It!

Sumo, once "Bear Paw" is one of those special golf courses: rolling links style on many holes, built on a hill so lots of wind, great views, and challenging but not impossible golf. I love it and stop there every chance I get. GREAT golf for the money.
