River Bend Golf Club
About
River Bend Golf Club combines some of the most unique play in the area with a course designed to provide an exciting golfing experience for players of all levels. Beautiful oak trees and meandering streams give the golf course its character, with elevation changes, multi-tiered greens and challenging areas of forced carry-including water features-and areas of forced lay-up in a links-style course, especially on the front 9. The back 9 is a more traditional golf course. All of this combined with the Texas wind makes River Bend a formidable challenge for even scratch golfers. It's one of the only only true links courses in south Texas. The staff is super and the course is very affordable. River Bend Golf Club has a unique practice facility that features an aqua range with an island green. A large putting green makes the Maverick a super practice area.

Goat Ranch
Went here due to no availability anywhere else. Not a terrible course, you can tell that they don't have a large budget, nor good soil to grow good fairways. Hard pan in the fairways which gives you tons of roll but also can leave the heavy hitters in trouble. The greens were the best part of the course. Actually in good shape. Firm, yet slow, good enough to tune up your putting game. The course layout is what makes it fun. If they had better resources this course would be a hidden gem for the area. Pace of play was at a snails pace. Lots of newbies learning out there, families, and some of the weekend warriors. Overall not a bad course.
Cons:
•Staff left me on “hold” for about 6 minutes (aka put the phone down and you can hear them talking about random things)
•Tee’s can’t even go into the ground. It’s like concrete at the tee boxes.
•Fairways are almost non-existent and tee boxes are littered with tees.
•Grounds and dead grass are so hard the balls bounce erratically.
•Seemed like good amount of players were oblivious to course etiquette.
Pro: Greens were okay.
Disappointed
Small town course that needs a lot of loving. The fairways were extremely long like playing in the rough or bare hard dirt. Tee boxes that you needed a hammer to get your tees in the ground. The greens were in good shape though.
Pace of play
There was a group of 6 players in front of me!! They let me play through on the fourth hole. On 10 th there was another group of 6 players!! Two of them kids under 10 years old and two teenagers. The two grown adults didn’t even help the kids look for their balls! Or at least play best ball with the kids!
Needs improvement
Front 9 is good layout, back nine not so good. Conditions in the fairways not good. Drought may have caused these barren dried conditions. Recent rains caused mud areas that need repair. Overall I would recommend going further south to Pleasanton golf course. The conditions there are more consistent.
Texas Golf
Layout of the course was good. Not much grass on the fairways though. The ball rolled forever.
They allow to many people to play at a very slow pace. Need a marshal
