Northlands Golf Course

Played twilight and paid $45. Course is very hilly and challenging to walk. Conditions were good - greens were decent (despite the obvious abundance of golfers not fixing their ball marks), fairways/rough were lush and well groomed and the bunkers were in good repair. The layout unique from any other Les Furber course I have played, although it vaguely resembles Trickle Creek (Kimberley, BC) in spots. It is a very aesthetically pleasing course and features some awesome holes (#4, #7 and #18 were my favorites). It should be noted, Northlands is definitely not a course for beginners! Heed the advice that is on the sign by the first tee box - if you can't break 90, move up to the white tees. The scorecard makes it appear short, but it plays a lot tougher than the yardage indicates. If you are a low handicapper that is looking for a challenge, this is a great track to try. Also, if you are visiting Vancouver and looking for a true Pacific Northwest golf experience, you will be wowed by this course. It really encapsulates the region with it's running waterfalls, rocky outcroppings, mountainous terrain, lush greenery and dense rainforest. Bring a few extra balls and don't be too disappointed if you are a couple strokes over your handicap. I would give this one 3.5 stars if I could.

You would never know this is a Municipal course. The course is in outstanding shape. I play a lot of public courses in the area, Fraserview, Riverway, McCleery, UBC and Northlands is by far the best bang for the buck and has the best conditions.

Best hot dogs at the turn. They sell Nathans dogs and they are fantastic. Downloaded their mobile app is was good for GPS.

This is a challenging course for my game, it's one of the hardest tracks I've played in the area. A true mountain course you will never have a flat lie, it plays long and will reward the long straight hitters. I play here once a month and can't say I've played a tougher front 9 before. I've been lucky to play some of the so called tough private clubs around and IMO this plays harder. Greens have lots of break and you'll rarely get a favourable pin placements. Food in the clubhouse is decent and has a great view overlooking 18 and 1. For me this is a cart mandatory course. Scary course for a higher handicapper, but a ton of fun. Recommend to anyone looking for a challenge.

The title says it all. This course is really a gem. You hardly ever get a flat lie and it's demanding off each tee....but i think it forces you to think and be better. I used to be scared of this course....but now I just love it. When you finally finish and look back at your round.. you get that rare feeling of true accomplishment. It's very challenging ... yet for some reason it's so peaceful cause of the lush surroundings. The restaurant is also TOP NOTCH. The chefs are excellent.

Nearing 20 years old this course is one of my favourites in the Vancouver area.
It is by no means a typical muni layout and takes real advantage of its mountain side setting to provide a serious test of golf.
The front nine features the serious elevation changes: #s 1, 3, 6 & 8 all play severely downhill off the tee, 4 & 7 severely up hill, 2, 5 & 9 are mostly flat overall but you need to get the ball in the right place to have a shot to the well defended greens.
The back is mostly flat with the exception of 10, 14, 16, which all play downhill and 18 which plays down off the tee and then severely up to the green.
A creek winds through the back and comes into play on the 3 par 5s on the back - again you need to be in the right place off the tee to carry the creek and have a shot at the greens.
There are a couple of aspects of the course that make you think the compromises were made in the design process:
- Notably the par 4 13th is a little short, it seems the municipality wanted to put a baseball field in where the tee should go. It is drivable for many players, although this is discouraged as it is blind. The holes defence is a severe dog leg to the left about 75 yards from the small but wickedly sloped green. Combined with the blind tee shot off the mountain and island green of the par 4 10th there is only one par 4 on the back over 320 yards in length, the 11th.
- The 12th is the only level par 3 on the course with both short holes on the front and the other two on the back all being severely downhill. I like downhill par 3s but this seems like a lack of imagination and /or the only way to jam 18 holes into the space available.
- I feel it also suffers from a lack of a driving range, probably because of that baseball field again.

With the exception of the lack of a range, none of these issues really detract from the experience, it is a mountain course after all. They are more things I have noticed in my time playing here.

Conditions at the course are generally excellent, even in the winter, as it is so well drained and they never use temporary greens.

Many memorable holes set in a spectacular west coast setting. Challenging holes and spectacular views. Great for intermediate and seasoned golfers. Very large greens were running a little slow. Conditions were quite accepatable given time of year and amount of rain we've recently had. Tough walk as there is a considerable amount of up and down, especially on holes #4, #6 and #18.

All 18 holes have their own charaters and fun to play with up/down hills, big creek in between fairways etc.
Relatively dry in this rainny season.
They don't use temporary greens.

This is the only course I can remember all 18 holes layoutsas all of them has different charaters with up/down hills/flat/creek in between fairways.
Very good rate for walking golfers and counting in power cart is still reasonable.
Even in rainny season the fairways are relately dry compare with many others.
