About
Walnut Creek opened in 1968 with its original Pecan Course–a Don January/Billy Martindale design that is more traditional than its neighboring Oaks Course, and considered more challenging. While the course is not long at only 6,538 yards from the tips, the fairways are narrow and create the illusion of being longer than they actually are.
No. 1 is a solid starter, doglegging left for 378 yards from an elevated tee along a creek. The approach plays back uphill into an elevated green. No. 6 is another good hole, playing 440 yards with a long approach over water to an elevated green.
On the back, the best hole is No. 11. It’s long at 438 yards but doglegs left downhill to a small green, providing the option of shortening the hole by cutting the corner and using the slope for extra distance.
Getting there : From I-20 east take Hwy. 287 south, and when you come to Walnut Creek Dr., turn left. Drive 2 blocks to Country Club Dr. and turn right.
