Wind and elevation
A lot of elevation changes on this course. It is short but when the wind blows here it adds difficulty. Greens were in good shape and pretty fast. Bring a hybrid club for a lot of tee shots as a driver will get you in trouble if too long.
First Time visiting from Massachusetts
During a week's stay on the BI, played this course. I had read other reviews complaining about the greens had been recently aerated. Greens were in great shape and could see where they had been punched but now fully recovered and rolled true. The day I played there was 3-4 club wind coming from the mountains to the ocean. The front nine was a test of club selection. Really enjoyed this course and would play it again. Great views and elevation changes on some holes. It was a good test of my game. Pace of play was great.
Just what I was looking for in a course
Good elevation change, fun layout, challenging but not to extreme, nice views and good pace of play
aeration
Greens were aerated recently. Total crap that this was full price. You should add that to your tee time listings and I should get a credit
Hot deal bargain
Got a great hot deal (<$70)!!
Course is in great condition. Greens were firm and true but a little slow but I think that is because the wind can really get up here.
I played the orange tees (6000 yds) and with the wind that was plenty for my first time here. Local knowledge helps with some of the lines of the tee boxes.
Definitely recommend it if you can bag a Hot Deal.
Fairways in poor shape but the greens were
Pretty good
Nice
Very nice course. Got a hot deal for a 2:30pm tee time. Just by myself. Caught up with a twosome in front on hole 11 and still finished under 4 hrs. Staff are very friendly. Practice facilities are great. Greens are fast but not all specially if your putting agains grain. Views are great but not as great as Mauna Kea side. Had a great time despite being by my lonesome. Highly recommended if you’re going for the affordability of courses in the area.
Terrific layout
My wife and I enjoy playing at Hapuna. The design is very good. Holes play in all directions, and the elevation changes and wind add interesting challenges. The green designs are intricate, but when we played they had been aerated about ten days prior, and they were very bumpy, which made even short putts difficult. We look forward to playing again when the greens have recovered to normal speeds.
Beautiful View
Great scenery, blue sky and sea.
But windy. You have to think the management.
Then more fun!
Best thing at this time about this course was the fairways
I played this course as my first course on the BIG ISLAND and was truely disappointed. I paid over $100 to play on aerated greens....the best part about this course was the staff and the fairways.... other than that don't play at this time of year....Horrible. !!
Views and aerated greens
Nice course and views. Greens are all aerated so putting is quite challenging.
Great value
Played in the morning after a 1.5 hour rain delay. Course draining was great. By the 4th hole was unable to tell it had rained. Played alone and spouse rode along taking pictures at all the nice vistas from the many elevated tees.
Beautiful Course and Views
Course has wide fairways but the approach to the greens are elevated and many protected by bunkers. Greens were in excellent shape but a little slow. Think about moving forward on the tee boxes . Almost every hole required a fair amount of carry of the the tees.
Great Course
Staff is great and course is kept in great condition always.
