The Running Y Ranch Golf Course
About
Running Y Resort sits just across the California border, surrounded by the beauty of the Cascade Mountains. The challenging golf course was designed by Arnold Palmer and has been ranked as one of the top 100 public courses in the country as well as one of Oregon's best. When asked to pick some of his favorite designs, Running Y made the list. The golf course takes advantage of all the beauty of southern Oregon, preserving the landscape with such care that is was certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The layout features Palmer's signature fairways that are both curvy and receptive. The front nine wraps around Klamath Lakes and plays through dense woodlands while the back nine crisscrosses through Payne Canyon. The final holes are also laced with Scottish-style mounding and a few water hazards.

Frost delay which is not the pro shops problem but i had the first tee time and I called one hour early they told me around 10 AM, I called again at 9
There was a frost delay which is not under the pro Shop Control I called one hour prior to my tee time 8:40 and was told around 10 AM. I called again @ 9 AM and they said 10 AM again. I showed up at 9:50 AM and they had let 5 groups out in front of me and I was a single so I had to play through the five groups which was a real deal killer.
I fet that they could have said show up @ 9:30 and we will get you out first especially since I live in Everett Washington felt as though they really do not care if you have to stand around and wait which is the worst thing in golf it was hard to get into a god tempo when you have to wait, wait wait then hurry hurry hurry!!!!!
Plus they just punched the greens........
Terrific golf experience!
Between the friendliness of the staff and the condition of the course and the layout, you couldn't ask for a better golf experience no matter what your handicap.
Overall great experience.
This course enforces a 4:20 round or faster. When a group several groups ahead of us slowed down the pace of play, one of the course attendants was quickly out to have a word with them. Things moved along smoothly afterwards. Fairways are generally wide enough for marginally good shots but wayward ones will find deep rough. Greens are large and hold good shots. Putting wise they are plenty fast but hold the line well if you find it. Not many options on the menu though and it is mainly a microwave snack bar. Staff for all services were very friendly in keeping with small town USA. I would recommend this course to everyone and plan on playing it again when I come back through this area. Lots to do besides golf, if you like fishing, camping, hiking.
course was in great shape and the scenery is awesome.
Love the layout. It's challenging but fair. Played 18 holes in just under 3 hours.
Nice
Love the course, everything but the price is excellent.
Terrific design
Lying in the foothills of the mountains the course designer has encapsulated the surrounding beauty in every hole. On the 4th hole 6 deer passed about 20 feet away from the tee box as we were preparing to hit the ball. Greens are very challenging to read but still the experience was very enjoyable. The course was one of the main attractions for returning to the area for a weeks stay.
This was a great experience. My friends and I enjoyed our selves vary much. We will definitely make the trip and play at Running Y again soon.
My friends and I traveled about 70 miles to play 18 at Running Y. All of the staff were friendly and helpfull. We were not disappointed at all and will return to play there again.
Beautiful setting, layout and condition.
Can't really say anything bad about it. Wished I played a little better, but that is not the courses fault! It would have been nice if there was a beverage/snack cart. Played the Green Tee's. Probably the right tees for up to a 20 handicapper and can hit it your driver around 230. Ball really seemed to carry.
More Than Fair Play
The course and surrounding resort bring to mind the best of Bend, while being much easier to get to from the I-5 corridor in Southern Oregon. In fact, it is not much more than an hours drive from Medford. Course conditions compare favorably to the best in Southern Oregon, and the layout is straight forward and fair without lacking in interest and creativiity. I would love to play this course again and again, but I didn't feel unnecessarily disadvantaged playing it for the first time. The nicest surprise as I played the round: surveying the course from the fairways on certain holes (17!) gave me some of same sense of adventure I got playing Bandon Dunes the first time. Dinner at the lodge afterward was also just right, great service in a very special environment. I am looking forward to coming back and staying longer next time.
Bugs!
Had to wait to tee off until assigned tee time even thought there was no one on the course and storm was coming in. Flying, biting bugs on every hole. Most overrated course we have ever played on in 30+ years of golf. Must have a great PR firm.
GREAT TRACK..Several tees to choose from.
Terrific golf, beautiful views and lots of birds. i also saw deer along the course.
premium soil so you can take a nice divot. Firm greens that hold as well.
I loved the course!
Good condition
Great shape in early July. Played late pm so it was a little breezy but not much of a concern.
Course is fun but way to expensive
I love to play this course however they charge way too much money considering there are no amenities. No restaurant/bar and you dont even get range balls with your round. I would not travel out of my way to visit. Basically poorly run. But again the course is a good one.
Very slow play.
Great value from Golf Now.com but pace of play was terrible. Also because we got a discount, staff did not treat us professionally. The grill was closed and it seemed the Clubhouse was in disarray.
Very fun course with awesome elevation changes and greens.
Great golf course with very friendly staff. $99 price a little high especially this early in the year. The course is a great layout with fun elevation changes and great greens. I loved it and would go back again. I would take advantage of the stay and all you can play option. It would be a much better value.
Beautiful course with excellent views, conditions, and playability
Running Y was a joy to play. The greens were faster than my home course, there were adequate number of bunkers to keep me honest, and the surrounding views were fabulous.
There was a cold breeze blowing 12-15 mph but given it was fall, this was to be expected.
Some of the greens were very difficult to play (fast, downhill shots), but a better player would take those into consideration when placing his shot.
Beautiful Course
The Running Y had a great course. The difficulty was moderate to hard. The greens are fast this time of year. We played in October. The staff was on top of the pine needles. Beautiful course on the lake edge with tall pines and aspens. The Golf Now deal was an amazing savings.
no 2 holes alike!
Good mix of doglegs, left and right. Great variation in the par 3's and par 5's are very different. Great views of the Basin and very friendly staff. Short game practice area is a very nice touch.
This course is one our "must do" every year.
The entire operation is under new management. They were over the top to see that our "play" was something to remember. They compted me 9- hole round
My wife had some post surgery issues and couldn't finish our 18 hole round. The course allowed me to play an additional round to compensate us. They also have a very challenging 18 hole putting area which will challlenge the best of any player. These putting rounds were "compted". Gave us free range tokens as well. The staff top to bottom were very accommodating. We scheduled a week trip back to Running Y for golf next year even before we left.
The course was the best shape it has ever been since I started playing there several years ago. It is a wonderful "destination venue".
With so much water and the lake right there, some times of the day/ year can be unfortunately buggy. I keep repellent in my bag just in case, especially when playing at twilight. Sorry they ruined your time on the course.
