A good test of golf
Although there's no water hazards here, make no mistake, this course is a good, fair test of your game. Plenty of length from the back tees, well cared for, smooth greens. What more could you need?
Better be a good putter
I had 43 putts. Unbelievable, very tricky every putt had a break in it. Very nice course.
Decent hole variety
As a municipal course it was pretty decent. The hole variety was better than others in that category. Greens were moderate speed and kept. All fairways were well watered during this hot dry summer. The small tee boxes were showing some wear and tear. As expected. I did like that the blue's were notably longer on many holes, something municipality often lack.
The locals I came across and played thru, I was a single, we're all really friendly. I got the impression I'd like hanging in the club house with the folks I came across.
Some holes were a bit close to others, but not really notable on most.
All in all I liked this municipal course.
Good municipal course
A few tips I thought might be helpful to readers, some of which have been mentioned by others. I play here several times per month. All in all it's an unexciting but somewhat challenging Gordon design in good condition that I enjoy playing.
-No depth to the bunker sand. This course is infamous for this. My group plays a "rake and place" rule. Very easily to blade the ball especially if they are wet.
-This is an easy course to walk.
-Beverage cart and snack shack hours are very inconsistent. One day they are open, the next they are not. You can buy drinks to go in the restaurant.
-For the daily pin position number, read the sign in the pro shop, not the one next to the first tee, that one is usually not updated often.
-Greens usually in good shape, rest of the place looks great given we haven't had rain in a month.
-Clubhouse restaurant is very good but packed weeknights.
-No drinking water on the course but they give you fair warning with several signs in the pro shop.
-Course plays very long from the blue tees. Don't bother unless you are a single digit handicap and drive 260+.
-Course is jammed with leagues going off both nines Monday through Thursday so don't bother playing after 2pm or so on those days.
-The bushes on the sides of the fairways are 150 yard markers.
-They do have rangers but you get the best results by calling the pro shop to complain. They've always taken immediate action when I've had to do that.
-If they have a 1pm outing on the weekend, they send the early morning players off both nines. This causes a pace of play disaster and when you make the turn there will be a big pileup. If you try to book a tee time and they are cut off after 9am with none available until like 5:30pm, that's what's going on.
BRING LOTS OF WATER !!!
Played here on Saturday the 10th, sweltering hot day into the mid 90's, with oppressive humidity , the starter warned us of swarms of gnats all over the course , he even had large cans of bug spray for anyone wanting it , on the putting green they were in your eyes , ears ,everywhere. Course was busy and the starter never bothered to do his job and send groups off at a descent pace , he was too busy on his phone talking about a job interview he had , so groups were on top of each other . Worst thing was there was no water anywhere on the course , no beverage cart either , on a day when it would have been a real money maker besides the fact that it was badly needed with the heat . When I asked why the cart was not out I was told the person didn't show up for work . The course itself was in fair shape , earlier in the season it was in very good shape . I blame all of this on bad management , somethings like the weather and the bugs (maybe) are out of your control , but to not even have water on the course on a day like this is all on management . After reading several other reviews the lack of water is a constant , absolutely no excuse for that .
Other Reviews Were Accurate
As a visitor to the area with some "extra time," I wanted to get a relatively inexpensive round of golf in during the weekend at a course with a solid reputation. Playing on a "hot deal" on a 96+ degree day, I got what I wanted ... in some ways. Paired as a single with a threesome, I walked rather than rode 18 holes. Crazy, in the heat, I know, but I also play better when walking. With at least two blind tee shots -- #2 and #11 come to mind -- and some rolling terrain as well as greens with varying levels, I got the challenge I sought from the course (rather than conditions).
Based on prior reviews, I was prepared for the lack of water on the course -- there were NO water jugs to be seen ... anywhere -- and a slow pace of play -- with NO intervention of rangers at any point. Playing behind two groups of college kids playing "scramble" golf, I was surprised how much we waited on shots throughout 18 holes. In addition, prior comments about the sand traps were spot-on; there is no depth to the dirt/sand in the traps and they're strewn with rocks/pebbles. Avoid them at all costs! At least I was forewarned and none of the conditions ruined my enjoyment of the day.
You should be prepared for thirst, slower-than-acceptable play, and "poor" bunkers before playing BGC!
Very Good Municipal Course
Course was in very good condition EXCEPT for sand traps which were mostly dirt and stones. Will definitely play here again. Also, bring your own water as there are only two fountains on the course.
friendly locals
Played in a foursome with local friendly people. Got good advice and, being a hot day, had a couple refreshing beers after the round. Only 10 minutes away from Coca-Cola park so I went to an ironpigs game. They won 10-0.
Good pace
Had no delays at any holes groups of 4 in front and behind us. Green medium speed but in good shape.
Terrific course, staff, and facilities.
I was skeptical about playing a municipal course in PA. The course was in fantastic shape and the greens were very fast for a hot July day. Quick pace of play around 4 hours with 2 rangers out on the links. The course was challenging but not overly difficult. Friendly staff, excellent half way house. We drank at the 19th hole on property. Great drink and food specials. Definitely on my replay list.
Bethlehem Muni Bargain
Nice design and some challenges. Course in excellent shape except for many fairway bare spots close to the greens. Allows walkers which slowed play on some long holes.
Bethlehem GC
It's a very friendly layout with no water
Great course for ladies, very friendly tees for ladies
Given heavy usage the pace is slow
Look for a round over 4:30"in the afternoon
Great condition
No pressure... Friendly players and staff
Great condition with the exception of the bunkers
Conditions were great except no sand in the bunkers.
Length of play
Took way too long to play 18 holes of golf. Did not see a ranger on the course the whole 18 holes to move people along
Slow pace, could have taken a nap!
Loved layout and 19th". Pace of play terrible - 5 1/2 hours. Traps need sand!
Good value and nice course
Course was in nice shape. The greens are big and challenging.
