Pace was entirely way too slow
2 golfers. Tee time was 1:20. Did not tee off until 1:45 due to groups in front of us each hitting two balls each to start. Finished at 5:45. Slower groups should be directed to allow smaller groups to play through. Simply be aware of your pace. Course was excellent as usual.
Course layour
When there were adjacent holes for either course, which hole was you next wasn’t easily identified. I played 2 holes from other course not knowingly
Multiple flags & cups left out
The crew was in the process of aerating the greens and I happened to be a victim of that….
Still potential, but still missing the mark
This is my second review of this course, specifically the Heritage Course having played a couple of years back.. I was hoping that things would improve two years later when I played this morning and sadly that was not the case. I was looking at the Vintage Course today as I played past on Heritage (I may have been the only person playing Heritage) and wondered if most of the maintenance budget is going to Vintage where things looked a bit cleaner kept? Hard to say. At the end of the day, Heritage feels like the course management does not like fairways or tee boxes at all. Greens? They dig and maintain well and true.
While bunkers have been re-sanded since I last played, the tee boxes show no signs of being mowed, weeded, seeded, or fertilized. Teeing off was effectively playing from the rough and fairways were playing from hazards. Fairways on almost every hole were missing huge areas of grass to the point where on nearly every hole I made a deal with myself to place a ball on whatever grass I could find in order just to play. The 16th hole in particular needs to in all honesty be completely rebuilt from tee through green. The fairway no longer exists, hard pan bounces good balls into unplayables, etc, standing water everywhere...
It's clear that the course is trying to clean up some things from the last time I played. I noticed a lot of work on cart path rebuilding across the property which was a need, but honestly, the course management seems to have the focus backwards. White Deer has a great app that is super interactive, a friendly and attentive staff, and a clean website...But the PRODUCT, the actual golf is just falling apart (at least on Heritage) and that makes it far less interesting than it should be. Not sure what it will take to actually create even average playing conditions. But I hope that happens as this place could be the centerpiece of an entire region. It's run by good folks who definitely care, but it'd be great to see an investment in the golf experience!
Solid
Roughs were a bit too rough, but all the more of a challenge. White Deer is always a solid course to play.
Looking forward to the Summer!
Can't wait to see this place in full swing in the summer. It looks like it could be great. Ive played here 3 times so far this year and have had a good experience every time. Im convinced that only one guy works at this course. Same guy that checked me in and answered the phone was the same guy who put my cart away and got me beer every time. Was very helpful and professional every time. I don't know his name or if he is the manager but he is the only employee I've interacted with. Conditions were good considering its March. Like I said Im excited to see what this place looks like when its all up and running. Going to explore possibly membership opportunities.
Played golf in March at a GREAT course!
My first 18 in PA in March was great at White Deer Golf Course! Yes the course was damp and icy in places, but definitely playable. Cart path only was fine, necessary and great for this early in the year.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, the facilities look great. Can’t wait for them to fully open. We’re even considering membership options. We will definitely be back to this course!
Consistent central PA beauty
Heritage is always a good time with friends. The scenery was beautiful and the course well maintained.
Heritage is one of the best courses in this area it is absolutely beautiful
