Oakbrook Golf Course
About
Oakbrook Golf Course in Stoystown is one of the area's most popular courses. Not only is it a great value, the course is a challenging round, even for low handicappers. The golf course is tight with many narrow doglegs. It's a seemingly short layout at 6,115 yards from the back tees but there are still holes that long hitters will enjoy. The front nine is more open while the back nine gets tighter. Strategically placed bunkers border the small greens. Although the terrain is mostly flat, there are some surprising breaks in some of the greens. The layout has a mix of short and long par 3s and the par 5 holes are especially tricky. There is a bit of rough and some water coming into play but it's nothing overly difficult.

Enjoyed our day
Course was in good overall condition
Has been very dry with little rain so was surprised it was so nice. Other courses we’ve played have been much worse
Wish they had more food choices
Would definitely recommend and plan to play again
Frustrating
They jammed too many groups too close together and there were four women walking who refused to let anyone play through. The course lacked yardage markers in the Fairway and it was confusing where to go next because the holes were so close together and had signs literally back to back and one tee box sign was completely covered with an overgrown bush which was also an intersection of two other holes. I couldn't wait to get out of there.
Hot day
Overall enjoyed playing. Little confusing on hole number a few times (like #1). Greens on some holes are sloped but only moderate. Most good size and all well groomed. Some yardages look easy but you'll need to earn your par.
Good public track!
Oakbrook is a good choice. The fairways are typically taken care of as our the greens and tee box’s. The patrons there however are a different story. Pace of play is always an issue, and if you go there to play a serious game of golf you will be disappointed. I had 3 different balls picked up and taken by the patrons. Not balls in the ruff, balls in the middle of the fairway. This seems to always be an issue every time I go there. But I continue to play it every so often because it’s a fun golf course and with the hope I’ll go one day and the pesky locals will not be thefting balls.
Poor course condition and slowest round ever1
The course was in poor condition. The greens were slow and needed cut. The fairways al o needed cut. Some tee boxes were full of divots.
The pace of play was ok for the first nine, but the back nine took forever. We saw a twosome a couple of fairways in front of us that was holding up play for the whole backnine. They took over 15 minutes to tee off on one hole and spent nearly 20 minutes on the hole. We could see this as we were waiting to tee of for this amount of time. Would not be going back to Oakbrook.
Good coarse, questionable people!
Overall the coarse was good. But the problem is the clientele that play there. The amount of stolen balls, both in my pairing and in the pairings around us were ridiculous. I had 2 taken off the fairway, my wife had 1 taken from the ruff right next to a green and the party ahead of us had one taken. What was an enjoyable first round there turned into a miserable ending 4-5 holes because of the ball thefts. I was told by some regulars there that this is a normal occurrence from “beer league kinda guys”. My advice would be too play here when there isn’t a crowd.
golf buddy
took my 7yr old son there for the first time, he hit 6 greens out of 9 from 100_120 yards out...he had such a good day as of now it's his favorite course other than 1 other course I took him to twice...
Oakbrook Golf Club
The cart paths are in pretty bad shape. I didn't like that the Pro Shop didn't announce the players to tee off. Two young guys. I won't call them Gentlemen because they were rude and asked me if they could play thru on the first hole. Hoolios because they ditched me and I followed them thru 9 holes. By that time, I had enough. Play wasn't fun since I
had to play alone and always waiting for them since one or the other had to search for their ball on every hole. They hit about every tree on the front 9. I'd hate to be their parents..these guys were late 20s or early 30s and two of the biggest jerks I've ever met on a course!
Disappointing Round
Played Oakbrook for many years. The course was in worst condition ever. Fairways were browned out. Rough areas around the course with dirt piles and overgrown areas. Tees were not good with many divots. Sand traps were void of sand with gras growing in some.of the traps. Greens were in fair shape.
Disappointing Course
I have played Oakbrook many times for many years. The course yesterday was in the worst condition since I began playing there. The tees were a mess, divots bare spots and uneven tee spots. The fairways were dried ouit, yet where ther was grass it appeared they had not been cut in a while. The rough was overgrown in spots and bare in spots. The golf cart "trails" were all dried out and when a cart went on them clous of dust followed. The sand traps were not well maintained and some had debris in them. The greens were in good shape for the most part and did hold shots. However, they were not cut and were very slow.
The carts were not cleaned and the windshields were thick with dust. The staff was friendly and welcoming and the pro shop was adequate. This was a big disappointment as the course previously was much better maintained I will not be going back to Oakbrook if it remains in this conditioin!
Good course, Where do I go?
Oakbrook is a great course, honestly. I played here for the first time with my dad and we played our best 18 yet! The parts bringing the course down is the state of the golf cart/walk and lack of hole number signs. The paths are very beaten down, which is probably due to winter weather, but I feel they can do a better job at maintaining them. The other thing is the lack of any hole marker signs letting you know what hole you’re at and if you’re on your way to the correct next hole. We had to ask a few fellow golfers if we were on the right hole several different times. We will return to Oakbrook and hope to see some improvements!
Solid course
Course was very firm. A lot of balls were running a lot. Not sure if that’s normal or just dry. Hard to hold greens. Takes time to adjust. Would love to play again knowing what I know now. Fun layout. Some hidden shots. Definitely one that most will play better the second time knowing the shots. Will definitely be back
