Nice Rural Course
I used to play Valley View County Club often about 20 years ago when I'd visit my grandparents from college. But, I hadn't played since. I was back in Sisseton for a few days, so I decided to give Valley View a try.
First off is this is not the course I remember. In the last 20 years they've removed trees and lengthened a few holes making it a much better test. Valley View is long enough that, unless you're a fairly long hitter, you'll use ever club in your bag. The holes are tree lined and the greens have some undulation to them. It is just 9 holes, so to play 18 you go around twice.
All that said, Valley View still isn't a real difficult course. The fairways are pretty generous and there isn't much in terms of hazards. If you keep your ball reasonably online, you should have a good chance to put up a good score.
I played on a Thursday and had the entire course to myself. It was $10 for 18 holes and $22 for the cart rental. I played 18 in 2 hours. There are some small elevation changes, but Valley View is very walkable. I chose to ride because I didn't have my push cart with me.
The day I played, the greens hadn't been mowed so they were quite slow. But they were firm. I learned right away that I needed to play for some roll out upon hitting the greens.
This was a nice trip down memory lane for me. Valley View is a nice rural course. They are in the process of building a new club house which will enhance the experience. I know NE South Dakota isn't a hot vacation destination, but if you're in the area and looking to golf, I think you'll enjoy Valley View.
