Was a good time for the price.
The course is very playable but in really poor shape. Still worth it if you get a great price. Stuff that really needs attention, weeds in/on the greens, mole hills all over.
Not for Serious Golfers
Although this course was only $15, I would not consider it a deal.
You definitely get what you pay for, which is fine if you don't take the game of golf seriously. However, if you like to play golf on courses that are kept up and maintained, this is not the course for you.
Needs a little work but over all it was maintained.
It's a nice place people were nice. I am a new to the game so it was ok for my speed.
Great for beginners
The course was pretty simple and open. Great course for beginners.
Great Value Golf
This course is great for beeginnere or players wanting a value round and speedy play. the spring time is rhe best time to play here. The course is in its best conditions from april thru may. During the summer months the course can become very dry and you will be faced with many hardpan lies. The only real down fall is the constant flying of large commercial airliners landing and taking off from nearby SeaTac International Airport. I have played here many times and have got used to it, I recommend an ipod and earphones if your playing solo. Several of the holes #4 and #8 have very undulating green complexes that you don't really run into in a value courses, this is a huge plus. This is a 9 hole course but plays as 18 with holes 5, 7 and 8 having completly different tee boxes. Hole 6 is the only hole with a water hazard.
Best deal around!
I walked 18 at this course last Saturday morning for $12 (regular price)! I'm not sure if you can play golf cheaper than that anywhere in Washington without a special deal. The course used to be 18 holes but was cut back to 9 due to Seatac airport expansion several years ago. That being said, there are seperate tee blocks for the front and back nine, and some are significantly different (i.e. hole#8 is approx 140-yd par-3, but hole#17 is closer to a 300-yd par-4). The course is not fancy, but maintained well enough that it shouldn't impact your play; and the layout is challenging. The only way to get good at golf is to play a lot of golf, and Tyee makes that acheivable even if you don't have lots of cash, so I give them 5 stars for the overall value!
The course conditions were very poor
Well, here it goes:
Bad location, hard to find.
They advertise as an 18 hole course, when it was only 9.
Nobody was there, including golfers and employees.
The clubhouse was locked with nobody inside.
The features or so-called hazards on the course were poorly placed or designed...and very unpleasing to the eye.
Maintenance of the course was very poor...worst than I've every seen. Mole mounds everywhere. Tees and tee markers in rough shape, plus no yardage signs. The greens were mostly moss, weeds and disease. The bathroom facility, out on the course (obviously, out of order) was straight out of a horror movie. The owner of the golf course should be ashamed, embarassed. They really are limited with the space they have because of Sea-Tac Airport. I'm really suprised they are still in business after all these years. The only reason why I played it because of it's legendary status on how bad it is ( I was curious), plus I only live 12 minutes away and I payed under $10.00 for the round. You would not want to pay anymore than that, trust me. I guess I really could have played for free, since there was nobody there anyway. Just a very disappointing golfing experience...you just had to laugh. Again, the owner should be ashamed. Good luck on bringing a U.S. Open to this course.
I like the reachable par four and the elevated tees, as well as the dog legs, to try and shape my shots.
Tyee Valley is a challenging course, that I really enjoy playing. I am just getting into the game of golf and Tyee is ideal for me as a great practice course, I will be playing this course more and also tell others about it.
Cheap, enjoyable, and the right price.
Very Leary to play this course after hearing some prior stories.
For the money this price was great. I am a 21 handicap and this course was narrow and challenging. Fairways need some work but who can complain for the price!
Viewpoint from a snobby golfer
This course appears to have lost its soul when the back 9 was surrendered to the construction of the 3rd runway at SeaTac Airport. The only green grass on the course was the tee boxes and the greens. This course could be so much more than what it offers. It is difficult to understand how players mesh on the "18" hole course that is essentially the 9-hole course with the few extra teeboxes that make several of the holes significantly longer the second time around. It could also be potentially dangerous on several holes for people playing the 'front nine'. Perhaps the human traffic on this course is so infrequent this does not become an issue. I was so left wanting more out of my golf experience that I went to play a different 18-hole course later that day after playing approximately 7 total holes and then feeling like I had had enough of this.
