Fun layout, solid conditions, great staff.
Was not expecting much out of this “up north” course and was very surprised by what I got. Not overly long, but does require decisions and smart play off the tee. Front 9 is pretty open, back 9 is mostly wooded and fairly tight…you’ll find most of your errant tee shots.
There are better courses in the area (Turtleback/Big Fish) but this is a hidden gem and by far the best value around.
Great course, great staff and Great Value!
Wow,
What a great day spent at the Cumberland Golf course. The staff was very friendly, the pace of play was great and the course was in fantastic shape. This might be the best kept secret in Northern WI. I will be back again for sure!
PS The barbeque at the Northwoods restaurant was a good value the burnt ends and pulled pork were delicious.
Fast Greens
Great golf course. Very good grass and fairways. They take great care of their golf course. Greens are fast and maintained very well. I donated several golf balls and found a few.
Wonderful Course
We had a rain delay, but finished in less than 4 hours walking. Course held up well following hours of rainfall. Excellent course with some very difficult holes. Bartenders and pro shop team members are super fun and provide outstanding service.
Things I liked:
- Front 9 used the rolling hills part of the land; back 9 used the tighter, tree-lined part of the property.
Things I did not like:
- The conditions were okay. Dead spots in some fairways, and soggy spots in other fairways. Green rolled well, but maybe a bit slow.
- With a full tee sheet, there was no starter to organize groupings or send groups off.
Things important to me:
- Rates are posted on the course website.
- This course is walkable.
- Don't recall any water coolers out on the course.
- Really nice branded ball marker.
Muddy's Corner
We were paired with another twosome who were about the same skill level and golf ability. They were fun and didn't slow play at all. The course was soggy most likely because of rain the previous night. Greens dried out over the course of our round. They were much faster at noon than when we started at 8:30am. Beer is cheap as you would expect at a Wisconsin town course and staff were attentive. All in all, a good value, some challenging holes, and not long. Will play there again. Cheers.
