Awesome greens, great scenery.
Good elevation changes
Lots of mature trees
Huge rolling greens
One of the best in illinois for sure!
very pretty
Great course very pretty nice that it does not play through houses all you see is course. Tough elevated greens
Very tough undulating greens.
I had never played this course before but read the reviews and thought that it sounded challenging. Boy was it ever as many of the greens were not only elevated, but very undulated and difficult to hold. It also played much longer than the yardage and the slope of the course is in my opinion way too low. While I struggled with my play (ended up under and behind a lot of trees and approach shots often rolled off), I enjoyed the course. I would love another crack at it, but I was just passing through.
The staff was friendly and helpful. They even cleaned up the showers for me after I mentioned that I needed to take a shower after playing but the floor of the showers were dirty from some maintenance work.
I would definitely recommend the course....especially for the Hot Deal rate.
Course has some tough greens
Not super long at 6600 yds. but greens are tough with a lot of undulation.
Another great day at the Elks
Per my previous review this track challenges your game from all aspects....a true gem which I wish I lived closer to but then it would be crowded, extremely expensive and in rough shape. If I had a choice between Ravisloe or Elks (two south of Chicago old school courses always worth playing) I'd pick the Elks hands down. I enjoyed this course so much I had to get back to it as quickly as possible.
Wonderful course. Well worth the drive.
Played with my foursome on a Saturday morning. One of the first groups out. Course was in great shape! The fairways were mowed and greens were perfect. The rough was lush so avoid if possible. The greens were fast and had lots of movement. The course reminds you of a course you would see on television during a golf tournament. Not too long but you have to make shots. The course defends itself well.
Awesome Old School Gem
1926 parkland design with strategic mounding that repels and routes shots in bad directions and retains it's original character completely. Golf Week magazine got this one right in regards listing this as #8 of the best public courses you can play in Illinois for 2013. Course needs to be played more than once to understand it.....each shot needs to routed properly.....crazy fast greens with large slopes and breaks....short siding will kill your card. Plays longer than the yardage listed and the 119 slope is a tad low in my humble opinion. 5 stars in my book and only my 2nd 5 star rating this year. I'll return to enjoy the fall colors.
Beautiful Course
This course keeps getting better and better every time i play. The pace of play was fine for the day.
Haven't played this course in years, really enjoyed going back
Took my 13 year old grandson, we took our time and had a blast.
Love this golf course!
This is my all time favorite golf course. There are no bland cookie cutter holes. Each holes present it's own unique challenges. Great elevated, undulating greens will keep you from getting too comfortable over your puts. The course is in amazing shape and worth twice the price you pay.
the greens have a lot of undulations, sometimes tough to read which was hard to read the break
nice course with mature trees and fun greens. feels like your playing out in the country
I would give this a 7 on a ten point scale.
Front 9 was great. Back 9 considerably more difficult with three long par 4's and a very tough par 3 that is 200 yds up a steep hill, you can't see the green. Fairways could have been cut shorter. Not one of my favorite courses but a great value for the money.
Worth the drive!!
If you want a course that's a shotmakers course then take a drive south to this great track built in 1926. The course plays longer then 6,200 yards because there is hardly any roll with the thick blue grass fairways. Most greens are guarded by grass bunkers and are elevated. We paid $20 on golfnow.com, green fees and cart.
Great course for a great price.
This course was in excellent condition. The greens are on the small side and have a lot of undulation to them. Even the fairways have a lot of small hills and valleys. The staff was very nice .All in all this is a very sporty course in great shape, and the price is right. Our group will definitely be going back to play there again.
Small, fast greens. Rolling terrain.
Great value and great course. Not long, but the small fast greens are a treat.
Course looked nice, wide open
The course is in excellent shape. Wide open country club feeling. There was no one in front of us and no one behind. Staff was great.
Old style course well maintained
Course was in very good condition, a little off the beaten path but worth the drive for the money.
Favorite course to play in the area
Not too much water or sand hazards but the course still plays tough. The greens are very fast and many are elevated with a lot of contour. It's a great value. It is the favorite most challenging course in the area for my friends and I.
Great value
Played in 3.25 hours on a Saturday. Challenging, yet playable. The greens are faster than average. Only downside is the location. Chicago-South is a stretch.
