Better than the rating on golf pass
I played in mid September, which I heard is the best time to play in the Nebraska sand hills. It’s a beautiful layout, rolling hills on the lake. The layout is diverse and thought provoking with, perhaps a little too many forced carries off the tee for my liking. I got a discount because the greens had just been punched but the greens where in amazing shape all things considered. Will definitely be back if I’m lucky enough to get back to nebraska
Great Layout, Challenging Course
Had a great time and would recommend to anyone interested in a beautiful layout and a challenging links course.
Decent Course, Don't Stay and Play
Stayed at the course and played a total of 4 rounds here. Course was in decent condition for the time of year, but the staff and accommodations were by far the worse I've delt with at any course. Especially for a course that charges $98 a round and $76 play through rate. When arriving for our first 9am round the staff was not there until 8:50am and proceeded to throw their arms in the air as if they didnt know why they had to be there so early. Staff then left the club house at 4:30pm which didnt allow us to use their facilities at the turn. The house we stayed at was filled with ants and other bugs. Two of the doors did not lock, and one remained open when we didnt deadbolt it. The front door was wide open when we arrived in a dust storm. After we left we placed a review and the course threatened adding fees to our stay if we did not remove the review and stated we would not be able to play here again. The course then proceded to charge us $100 for the condition the house was in, while in conversation about the negative review and us not removing it. Paying the $100 fee is a better experience than paying $100 for golf here.
Sometimes the truth hurts, Bayside.
Not Up To Its Own Expectations
I played this course 15 yrs ago on a guys' trip and had some misgivings. Given the fact it was chilly and windy that day, I felt I should give it another chance.
First, let me say. This is worth a visit. The layout is very interesting and it's certainly challenging. There's a lot of potential here, it just feels like there needs to be a bit more attention in all areas.
The areas around the clubhouse are even a bit confusing in terms of where you can or can't drive the golf carts, etc. I like the rustic look and sandy cart paths, but some of them were super rutted out. Conditioning was just OK overall.
Again, this is a nice layout, but at the price point and what it seems to want to shoot for it feels like there's a bit more attention to detail needed here. Little things like no GPS on carts (only 50 yd increment sticks on the sides of the fairway) and empty sand/seed bottles on the carts are the little things that matter when you're shooting to be a premier-ish course. Even the little things like lack of choice in food and beverage makes a difference.
My first visit I came away feeling the front was short and the holes were too close together while the back was sprawling and long. I felt the front 9 was less confined than I'd first figured and the back 9 wasn't as much of a bear as I'd remembered. Nice weather and reasonable winds surely helped my impression this time around.
Again, if you're out here and you want to play an interesting course and have a good test of golf, by all means play here. It's worth a visit. But my perspective still remains, if I'm coming from the East I'm gonna stop and play in Gothenburg at Wild Horse every time over this place. Not gonna make the extra drive to come this much further out.
Great greens, unique bunkering and scenic layout
Not sure about other reviews, but I highly recommend this course for a unique well kept golf course! One of my favorite courses played on an out west trip. I preferred this course to Wild Horse.
Difficult, but a must-play.
Played at the end of August, and it seemed the greens had taken a bit of a beating throughout the season. A bit spendy considering the condition. Expect a few blind shots and bunkers protecting everything. Don't expect a flat green or to find your ball in the rough! Otherwise, beautiful and challenging course.
OUTSTANDING!!!!!
Bayside is AWESOME!!!! Very unique golf course. Top 5 BEST courses in Nebraska, back 9 is without a doubt the HARDEST 9 in the state!!! Every single hole is hard, but it's also Beautiful and fun!!! You will not be disappointed!!! If you play "The West" you have to start/end with Bayside, Wildhorse and Awarii Dunes, for the money you can't beat it. If you get a chance to go to "The Prairie Club" in Valentine I highly recommend it, as good as any place I've been, including Bandon Dunes, Whistling Straits, Arcadia Bluffs and Quarry at Giants Ridge!!!
Unexpected Gem
Played here the day before Ballyneal as a kind of warm up. The course was very good, some think the front nine to be the weaker, I would argue it's the better nine. The back nine is a bit tricked out with pretty holes, but the front nine is more fair and fun, but the whole experience was great. Greens were excellent and fairways also. Would return again.
Amazing Course
Great course with a unique layout with awesome views of the lake. Course is in excellent condition. Front nine eases you into your round and the back nine will challenge all skill levels.
Hidden Gem
Great course, back nine steals the show. Staff was very friendly. Condition of course was very good, greens at the time I played were smooth and healthy with good consistent speed.
