The Bluffs on Thompson Creek

My Brother's and I enjoyed beautiful weather, great fellowship and the fantastic course at The Bluffs!

A lot of trees which leads to a lot of roots if you miss fairway and rocky dirt. Fairways have some hard spots. Overall I enjoyed the course

Course is on ok shape, green we’re not good. Weeds, did not roll true

Front nine was great! If you hit it well you can leave a wedge in. Back nine was a more difficult but definitely fun! Great course

The layout and design of this course is great. There are some spectacular holes but the tees bunkers and greens need some real TLC. Most of the fairway bunkers are marked as ground under repair. Some of the tee boxes are not flat. The greens were a little rough and some have Bermuda infecting them.

All that being said the staff is fantastic and the price I paid on Golfnow was worth it. The course is about an hour outside of Baton Rouge but worth the drive. I would be really interested to see if the course gets put back into shape the way Arnold Palmer designed it.

This used to be the best course in the state. Unfortunately, now it is nowhere near that quality. Fairways are dry and hard as a rock. Tee boxes feel like the ground was rolled on by a steamroller. I broke at least 6 tees trying to put them in the hard ground. Some bunkers were ok, but others have had weeds take over. Greens were decent on the first 8 holes but became very inconsistent on the back 9. Some were lighting fast, some were very slow.. Second hole used to be a par 5, has been converted into a par 4. Yardage listed as 355 yards, but in reality is probably about 260-270. This is a safety hazard. It's sad the condition this course is in. I will not play it again.

There are some tee boxes and bunkers that need some maintenance but most were in good shape. For the money, you can't beat this course.

The greens and overall playability of this course are about the best they’ve been in the past 5-10 years, but that’s still not saying much. Many bunkers have been totally lost. And a couple of tee boxes are still nothing but sand.

Amenities are now non-existent (Covid has much to do with that I’m sure).

I would still say that $30 on a Saturday morning is worth the 30min drive to play. The layout is second-to-none in south LA.

The first time I played this course was in 1995. I’ve played a handful of times since and it was always in beautiful condition. Today I was shocked. It was a goat ranch!! Terrible condition as if it has been shut down and not touched for months. Weeds growing in Avery bunker and trap. No sand it then either. Just dirt. Greens were inconsistent and at best average condition. Not worth the money. What are the owners thinking. This course used to be a destination course. They need to shut it down, find some investors and bring it back to its original condition!!!

I have been playing the bluffs for over 30 years, this is the worst condition I have ever seen it in. It is very very disheartening to see a course with a championship layout fall into such disrepair. The tee boxes were very sparse, the greens were bumpy, the traps are a disaster, and overall it was very ragged. I will not return until it improves dramatically.

Never have I seen a course in such poor condition. Bunkers were full of grass and weeds but little sand. Fairways and tees were in dire need of mowing. Cart paths were little more than broken asphalt and cracked over tree roots. Ponds were murky and stagnant. Very disappointing to see a course which is pretty and has good bones to be in such a dire state of disrepair, especially with the names Palmer and Audobon attached to it. Can't blame these conditions on COVID. Shame on the owners for allowing these conditions to exist.

Greens, fairways, and tee boxes were decent and appeared to be well kept, but the sand bunkers look to have been ignored for a long time and were not playable.

Greens and fairway were in good shape. Sand traps were horrible; there’s a lot of them so they either need to be in better shape or filled in. In summary, it just looks like the minor upkeep has been neglected for the last few years.

I live in Corpus Christi, Texas but have been spending a week every Spring and Fall in St. Francisville for the last 6 years and playing golf at The Bluffs. Love the course. It is challenging and always in great condition. Clubhouse and restaurant staff are awesome.

I have easily spent over $1000 in greens fees at The Bluffs in 2020. I have had multiple issues with people just popping up on the course on the hole in front of me in the middle of a round, which negatively impacts the pace of play. I assume these are members that just show up when and where they feel like it, but that activity is rude to other golfers and should not be tolerated. My patience ran out on July 4. We were admittedly 2 minutes late for our tee time. As we arrived at the first hole, there was a group on the green, a group on the fairway and two groups waiting at the tee (one group waiting to tee off was still actually waiting on the third person). As we patiently waited, another group pulled up behind us then another guy drove around us and stepped on the tee box. As we asked him why he was driving around us, he responded that he had a 9:00 tee time. We said that our tee time was at 9:00, and we had been waiting for 20 minutes. He said, well just go start on Hole 10 then. We went back to the clubhouse and complained and asked for a refund. The employee responded that they are semi-private, and we were late. There were FOUR groups on hole 1 when we arrived 2 minutes late. We ended up starting on 10 as the rude person that skipped in front of us hole 1 demanded We will not be back. They desperately need a starter and a marshal.
