Red Tail Run Golf Club
Red Tail Run Golf Club is situated on the south side of Decatur, Ill. The course stretches across open, gently rolling land where the bird that the club was named after, the Red Tail Hawk, circles freely overhead. Designed by PGA Hall of Famer Raymond Floyd, the golf course features large, undulating greens and wide, rolling fairways. Native prairie grasses also accent the landscape, adding to the layout's level of difficulty. At 5,651 yards, the golf course isn't terribly long but the openness of the landscape means that your round will be subject to the wind. Depending on how it's blowing, it can play much longer. Red Tail Run Golf Club has a mix of challenging and player-friendly holes, giving the course appeal for players of all skill levels. Red Tail Run also has a driving range available for warming up.

Love this course , use every Club n ur bag. Greens n fairways r n great shape. There's water, sand traps dog legs n great par 5's
Fond memories of Faries
Would I have replaced Faries with this course designed by Raymond Floyd ? No.
Is it typically in good shape ? Yes.
Are the greens too soft ? Yes.
No one fixed pitch marks in Decatur, average age of a golfer in this city must be close to 65. None of them can bend over to fix them.
Firm the greens up allow shots to be ran up will add a whole new challenge and make this course play how I think it was intended.
Awesome day course is n perfect shape. Greens hold well n putt true n fast
Fun fair course
We usually make it at least once a year but always worth the drive.
Best course in central Illinois. The course is pristine for the price the staff is super friendly and pace of play was great. I will be spending a lot of time here in the future.
Since Decatur shut down one of its popular golf courses, that leaves only two public courses for the whole city. It shows. Pace of play was horrible. It took 2.5 hours to finish the front 9. Overall it too 4.5 hours for 18. And it was only the two of us. The course, however, was in great shape.
Excellent course to play. I would play this course more often at this price. It was worth the money.
This is a forgiving course off of the tee and gives an average golfer a chance at a good score.
Stay out of the prairie grass.
This course can play relatively easy if you hit it straight, but the strokes can add up quickly if you miss the fairways. Bring a few extra balls just in case.
Nice Course. Long Day
This was my first time playing Red Tail. I made a tee time for 1220 for me and my brother in law. My father in law asked if he could join and of course that was a no brainer.
When I checked in at the clubhouse I stated that I had a 1220 tee time and I asked if I could possibly add one more.
The man at the desk just looked at me and said angerly "No." I looked over at my father in law and you could see he was embarrassed and none of us knew what to do. We all just stood there since he gave us such a direct answer bargaining didnt seem like an option.
Eventually he said he would go ask the group in front of us to go ahead and he did squeeze in our request.
The course was wet like many in the area are. The course was cart path only so the pace of play was slower than normal.
I'm grateful for the chance to play this course as I really enjoy the link style of play.
The front nine provides opportunities for a low score. The back is a little more challenging.
The concession attendants were very helpful and friendly. Overall a nice experience. (Other than the first impression.
I will be back. Fair price and Nice Course.
Nice layout with fast greens. For unknown reasons staff was letting out singles instead of pairing them up? This resulted in our foursome letting two singles through which slowed our play. When we got to the turn, for some unknown reason they stuck a group of five in front of us? The group consisted of entitled regulars who took their sweet time. We waited on almost all shots and they never once motioned us through or sped their play up!
