San Pedro Golf Course
About
San Pedro Golf Course is an 18 - hole championship facility located on the banks of the San Pedro River. The golf course winds through the mesquite and along the banks of the San Pedro on the front nine. The back nine travels through four canyon like settings and finishes up with the 457-yard par four split fairway eighteenth hole. The golf course stretches out to 7187 yards from the tips and there are five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels.
The surrounding vistas at San Pedro are unmatched by any other golf club in Southeastern Arizona. From various points on the course, the San Pedro River Basin can be seen and this Mark Rathert design stretches along those river banks to the natural canyon like settings with the Dragoon mountain range in the background. The elevation changes and cool crisp air provide a setting that will bring you back for the challenge.
The bentgrass greens will provide slick playing surfaces with some undulations to test your stroke. The key to play on hole # 2 - is to stay clear from the left side, as the San Pedro comes into play early in your round. Your second shot to this 457-yard par four will test your long iron game! The fifth creates a great approach to the green on this par five. The par four sixth requires precision off the tee, as there are two bunkers along the right side with a narrow approach to the green. The seventh is a cute par three that is followed up with a par four and the 558 yard par five ninth that requires two well placed shots as the right hand side is guarded by a pond as you approach the green. The left side approach is definitely your safety valve.
The back nine opens up with a straight away 400 yard par four followed by a 197 par three with a very tricky undulated green that slopes from left to right. Walk away with a three here and be happy. Holes 12 - 16 will offer you both scenery & challenges coupled with a great test of golf. The twelfth is as good a par four that exists. The tee shot leads you into a narrow area that favors the left side, as this is a slight dogleg right. The second shot will let you know if you can thread the needle as the approach is a gem. Once on this bowl shaped green area you will look back and see the beauty that Mark Rathert carved here. The ride to the thirteenth tee brings you to the highest elevation on the course, where the San Pedro River Valley surrounds you - encased by three mountain ranges including Cochises' Stronghold - where that once heralded Indian and his tribe staked their claim. The 605 yard thirteenth will require position to the right center on both your drive and second shot, as you approach to this green. The fourteenth resembles hole # 12 but is a tad longer. The fifteenth hole is a scenic par three with a drop of 50 feet from teeing area to green. The sixteenth and seventeenth give you a slight breather as you approach the finest finishing hole in Southeastern Arizona - the par four split fairway 457 yard eighteenth hole. Water comes into play off the tee as well as on the second shot to this green that is also guarded by a bunker as you approach the apron.
San Pedro is tough but fair with exceptional playing surfaces and a range of tees (5) that will test golfers of all levels. You won't tire at San Pedro - enjoy the scenery and the natural desert like playing conditions that will soon be heralded throughout the area.

Keep up the good work!!!
Still some tee boxes are too hard to place your tees, much better than the last time 1 week ago. Please have drink cart available or bar open on Monday after rounds

improving
The course conditions are improving. Pace of play was poor with no ranger to speed up group in front. My cart was hit 2 times from group behind while waiting to hit approach shots. No apologies from them. Beverage girl was great!
Golf Monday after Christmas
Course is really in the best shape I've ever seen it since playing at San Pedro the last 5 years. The only problem I had is with the tee box. Unable to get my plastic martini tee in the ground due to dryness. Please take care of this .Also it would be nice to have the restaurant open for lunch on Mondays. Thank You Ira rockowitz Green Valley Az
Beauty and condition
San Pedro has reshaped the playing experience at this course. With beautifully well maintained fairways. They have really worked hard to improve the tee boxes and greens. They have also started to rope off some fairways to make them as pristine as I've ever seen them. Players will see the vast improvements and will better stay on cart paths. Cudos to the groundskeepers for these amazing improvements. Still work to be done in front of hole #1 with lingering standing water and some landscaping improvements around some tee boxes but such an improvement I had to stop into the bar and have a drink or two and enjoy the view from the club house just to cap a wonderful experience.
Links- type qualities
The overall layout of this course is such that challenge the skills of golfers of all skill levels. The tee boxes, fairways and greens are all expertly maintained with no indications of neglect or abuse. In all, a very satisfying golfing experience.
slow play
Frost delay and shot gun starts
Slow play
Makes it a test of patience
Price increase for the birds
Work hard to play here and hope it continues
HOLD THE WATER?
The course is making its return slowly and should be back to its normal challenges. Two things noted on this day while playing. First, course was appeared very wet with puddles of standing water on many fairways. Good lies were hard to come by given over watering and muddy conditions in many places. Second, slow play with groups ahead of us. These slow players are not appreciated and there knowledge of "KEEP PACE" with the group ahead is non-existent.
Still a great course lay out with high potential.

Course Rebuild Under Way
First time played after 15 months due to very poor course conditions. Now the revamping of the course is very evident. Tee boxes and fairways were showing much improvement yet very wet. Greens were much improved and getting back to very good shape. I was disappointed to see the bunkers being let go to grass growth and no sand. Ove all I was impressed with the course improvement and play ability. Will play again soon.
