San Pedro Golf Course is an 18 - hole championship facility located on the banks of the San Pedro River. The golf course winds through the mesquite and along the banks of the San Pedro on the front nine. The back nine travels through four canyon like settings and finishes up with the 457-yard par four split fairway eighteenth hole. The golf course stretches out to 7187 yards from the tips and there are five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels.

The surrounding vistas at San Pedro are unmatched by any other golf club in Southeastern Arizona. From various points on the course, the San Pedro River Basin can be seen and this Mark Rathert design stretches along those river banks to the natural canyon like settings with the Dragoon mountain range in the background. The elevation changes and cool crisp air provide a setting that will bring you back for the challenge.

The bentgrass greens will provide slick playing surfaces with some undulations to test your stroke. The key to play on hole # 2 - is to stay clear from the left side, as the San Pedro comes into play early in your round. Your second shot to this 457-yard par four will test your long iron game! The fifth creates a great approach to the green on this par five. The par four sixth requires precision off the tee, as there are two bunkers along the right side with a narrow approach to the green. The seventh is a cute par three that is followed up with a par four and the 558 yard par five ninth that requires two well placed shots as the right hand side is guarded by a pond as you approach the green. The left side approach is definitely your safety valve.

The back nine opens up with a straight away 400 yard par four followed by a 197 par three with a very tricky undulated green that slopes from left to right. Walk away with a three here and be happy. Holes 12 - 16 will offer you both scenery & challenges coupled with a great test of golf. The twelfth is as good a par four that exists. The tee shot leads you into a narrow area that favors the left side, as this is a slight dogleg right. The second shot will let you know if you can thread the needle as the approach is a gem. Once on this bowl shaped green area you will look back and see the beauty that Mark Rathert carved here. The ride to the thirteenth tee brings you to the highest elevation on the course, where the San Pedro River Valley surrounds you - encased by three mountain ranges including Cochises' Stronghold - where that once heralded Indian and his tribe staked their claim. The 605 yard thirteenth will require position to the right center on both your drive and second shot, as you approach to this green. The fourteenth resembles hole # 12 but is a tad longer. The fifteenth hole is a scenic par three with a drop of 50 feet from teeing area to green. The sixteenth and seventeenth give you a slight breather as you approach the finest finishing hole in Southeastern Arizona - the par four split fairway 457 yard eighteenth hole. Water comes into play off the tee as well as on the second shot to this green that is also guarded by a bunker as you approach the apron.

San Pedro is tough but fair with exceptional playing surfaces and a range of tees (5) that will test golfers of all levels. You won't tire at San Pedro - enjoy the scenery and the natural desert like playing conditions that will soon be heralded throughout the area.

San Pedro update

Course conditions are getting better but still needs a lot of work. Greens especially. The course had been neglected, and now making catchup

Great layout it greens are lost

Loved playing this course for years but about half the greens need replaced and they let the bunkers grow over with grass. Sad to see it’s decline.

In the rough

Poor shape. Hard as a rock. Bunkers weeds.

Greens terrible. Let this course die slowly, like Naco? Is that the plan? Sadly it looking that way.

San Pedro g.c.

All in all the course was pretty good. It could use some love but you don't have a lot of options out in Benson.

It's got some good challenging holes and some fairly simple holes. Greens are what really need work.

Would I play again? Probably not, unless greens were addressed. Some of my putts would hit a patch on the green and jump a half inch into the air and go off left or right. I live in Green Valley, solid hour drive but It's hard to complain when you're out on a golf (unless it's slow play. That drives me crazy). Not the best course but you're out of the house and swinging clubs.

I call life as I see it.

The course just needs some attention to details.

Great course.

This is a great course. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Some of the holes have tight fairways and you have to hit it straight. I played in late March and felt that the course was in great shape. Some of the greens were a little spotty but perfectly acceptable and most were in very good condition and fast. It is obvious that the staff is putting in an excellent effort to keep the course up. and improve it. Some of the fairways are like carpet and look like a manicured lawn where the ball sits up nicely. Errant shots will have you digging in the bag for another ball, Don't waste your time digging through the brush because it can be dense. No sand in the bunkers. Did I mention that I love this course and play it every time I come through Benson. Thanks to the city and staff employees for keeping this course open, accessible and affordable to the flailing public.

Rough.

Been playing this course for 5 months. Greens have improved very little. Miss short putts because the ball rolls through a plinko board for a green. The cart paths are very rough. No improvements at all. Worst ive ever seen next to Wachuachuca. Big holes in the fairways, break your back riding along. Fairways have improved a little. Water leaks not fixed. Watering the brush. Areas around the greens are very bad, rough as all get out. 18 green and fairway covered in duck poop. Driving range has a club cleaner, but hardly ever has water in it. One flag in driving area. No range markings. A lot of ball washers are broken or dry or has never.had the water changed. Smells awful. Overall, I've never seen anyone fixing anything on the course.

Greens need a lot of help

The tee boxes and fairways are good but the greens are another story. Only 6 out of the 18 are ok.
