San Pedro Golf Course

About
San Pedro Golf Course is an 18 - hole championship facility located on the banks of the San Pedro River. The golf course winds through the mesquite and along the banks of the San Pedro on the front nine. The back nine travels through four canyon like settings and finishes up with the 457-yard par four split fairway eighteenth hole. The golf course stretches out to 7313 yards from the tips and there are five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels.
The surrounding vistas at San Pedro are unmatched by any other golf club in Southeastern Arizona. From various points on the course, the San Pedro River Basin can be seen and this Mark Rathert design stretches along those river banks to the natural canyon like settings with the Dragoon mountain range in the background. The elevation changes and cool crisp air provide a setting that will bring you back for the challenge.
The bentgrass greens will provide slick playing surfaces with some undulations to test your stroke. The key to play on hole # 2 - is to stay clear from the left side, as the San Pedro comes into play early in your round. Your second shot to this 457-yard par four will test your long iron game! The fifth creates a great approach to the green on this par five. The par four sixth requires precision off the tee, as there are two bunkers along the right side with a narrow approach to the green. The seventh is a cute par three that is followed up with a par four and the 558 yard par five ninth that requires two well placed shots as the right hand side is guarded by a pond as you approach the green. The left side approach is definitely your safety valve.
The back nine opens up with a straight away 400 yard par four followed by a 197 par three with a very tricky undulated green that slopes from left to right. Walk away with a three here and be happy. Holes 12 - 16 will offer you both scenery & challenges coupled with a great test of golf. The twelfth is as good a par four that exists. The tee shot leads you into a narrow area that favors the left side, as this is a slight dogleg right. The second shot will let you know if you can thread the needle as the approach is a gem. Once on this bowl shaped green area you will look back and see the beauty that Mark Rathert carved here. The ride to the thirteenth tee brings you to the highest elevation on the course, where the San Pedro River Valley surrounds you - encased by three mountain ranges including Cochises' Stronghold - where that once heralded Indian and his tribe staked their claim. The 605 yard thirteenth will require position to the right center on both your drive and second shot, as you approach to this green. The fourteenth resembles hole # 12 but is a tad longer. The fifteenth hole is a scenic par three with a drop of 50 feet from teeing area to green. The sixteenth and seventeenth give you a slight breather as you approach the finest finishing hole in Southeastern Arizona - the par four split fairway 457 yard eighteenth hole. Water comes into play off the tee as well as on the second shot to this green that is also guarded by a bunker as you approach the apron.
San Pedro is tough but fair with exceptional playing surfaces and a range of tees (5) that will test golfers of all levels. You won't tire at San Pedro - enjoy the scenery and the natural desert like playing conditions that will soon be heralded throughout the area.

Good course and great value
The tees, fairways and greens were in great shape. The greens, in particular, were fast but putted very true. My only negative would be that most of the bunkers seemed devoid of sand and looked as if they were being allowed to grow over. If that is the case, the sooner they are grass the better.
Nice course.
Played here last Sunday. Nice course. Well laid out. Just got really dirty Carts kick up a ton of dirt. My bag was covered in dirt as was I. That was a first.
San Pedro g.c.
I'd actually give the course a 3 1/3 stars.
It's in the desert near the small town of Benson, so considering its location, it's decent.
Troon is now part of the course so hopefully they'll put some much needed money & time into it. It has some challenging holes & doglegs. Pace of play was slow but had some beginners in multiple groups Infront of us. Started as a single by the 3rd hole we had 4 singles to make a 4some. Slow but we all had a good time. Wind picked up pretty good on last couple of holes, so that was a challenge. Would recommend with a note of 'don't expect mint condition'. It's in the desert.
It is what it is
Its a golf course in Benson, soooooooo... If you play in jeans,, drive a dirty truck and having cold beer is more mportant than having new clubs, it's fine!! You have to budget an extra hour after the round to scrape the roofing tar (mud) off your shoes, dust EVERYTHING you own and wash the smell of whatever Benson is cooking out of your clothes.
It's a fun layout. The people are friendly. The price is right. No playable bunkers. Bumpy weeds on the greens.... but overall playable!?!
San Pedro
Nice track but every green has some sort of weed issue
Small weeds are infested on every green making it difficult to roll the ball smoothly. If you cleaned this issue up,it would rate a higher review.
Crazy
Love it
But slow play kills the fun
6 golfers on 11 a par 3
Then someone tries to hit me with a drive
Just missed
Oh well still my favorite
But the hour drive not much fun
Play on
Crazy as always
Slow play one guy hitting two balls & his wife looking for golf balls
6 people on #11 a par 3
Then one of them hits into me on the next hole
I love this place but play here less often due to crazy slow play
It’s an hour drive too
I’ll miss this course
Surprisingly good!!
Played this course a while back and conditions and amenities weren't there. This time course was in really good shape, very friendly staff and renovations done to facility are great! We grabbed a bite after round and food was really good and well priced!!
Good job overall!
Pretty good
Tees are improved, and fairways are seeded for the winter and nice. You don't want to miss the fairways. Greens are still a work in progress with some pretty smooth but others having quite a few rough areas when I think some old ? weeds are still present.
Never again
Paid $37 to play this course. Was worth $15 in my opinion. To the people who rated this course 4 and 5 stars, you must be kidding. I don’t know where to begin in describing this course.
I am a tourist and played this course based on the previous reviews. Don’t make the same mistake I did.
Coming Back!
San Pedro is my local course. It has a bad reputation with the local community but I enjoy it. The layout is difficult. It was in rough shape over the summer because they lost rights to one of the wells. But the grounds crew and oversees have worked wonders. It is in the best shape I have seen it in in a long time!
Great day out
We arrived early and got off early to find the course in good shape and the greens in excellent shape. The round took just 3 hours.
S L O W
3 groups on every back 9 tee box is a sign
Found the problem on # 17
Looks like a group of seniors needed to move up and pick up the pace
I’m one but play fast slow play is a painful experience
Pick up and stay up with the group in front of you.
If you don’t see a group pick up and find them
