Colts Neck Golf Club

About
Colts Neck Golf Club is one of central New Jersey's most popular courses. The diverse course offers everything from Scottish-style bunkers to sparkling lakes. Tall golden fescue rough borders the fairways and the greens are large and undulating. The course is seemingly short at only 6,236 yards but it shouldn't be taken lightly. It's much more challenging than it appears. The layout finishes with two of its toughest holes. The 17th has a tough green fiercely guarded by out-of-bounds and the course saved the most difficult hole for last. This par 3 will test even the most seasoned golfers. In addition to the golf course, Colts Neck also has a 25-station driving range that stays open late. It's a great spot for getting in some practice after work.

Good Course
Staff were friendly, pace of play was good. Layout was good, a lot of dog legs and tons of bunkers with good sand. Course is short but has graded and hard greens. Conditions were really good for November. We were paired with another twosome that were friendly. Greens were fast, probably lightning in August. I would go back with a Golfnow hot deal but probably wouldn't pay full price. They also did not have any food or drink available after 3pm.
Greatly improved
I've played Colts neck golf club several times and generally conditions are OK. to good right now, they were very good.
Epic Day
We played with a member and his son and had a top tier game. His son took a 3W off the fairway 250 yards to the green it was that kind of game. Things are in great shape unlike other places in the off season. Would highly recommend.
Poor condition on the greens
I’ve played course many times before COVID.
The course is not long for advanced players but the conditions were better before. After 3 years I decided to play there reminding me of great conditions overall. Staff, fairways and smooth fast greens. Got a late tee time after 2:30 pm. Just me and my wife. Upon arrival I see only young adults staff ( HS students). Didn’t help me loading the the bag to the cart. Even they saw me pulling up to the front entrance. Same thing inside to pay for my tee time. I know they are inexperienced. But sure lacks training there.
We teed off early though 2:20pm. There was no one ahead of us at that time. 1-2 hole we were ahead 5 min. But we arrived at 3rd hole suddenly 4 some students were getting ready ready to tee off. I confronted them and they said they were told to tee off from third hole. But we got ahead of them because they knew what was going on. But after that hole I see another 4 some students carrying & walking in front of us. Then I realized student players were being squeezed in the course in the afternoons. After 5 holes we had to wait 5-10 min every hole. Fairways were average to good. Tee box great. But the greens were terrible. A lot of holes, divots and didn’t look as good as 3 years ago. Very disappointed. Although the person in front of me should pickup & repair divots and marks. I couldn’t put a single hole without removing few pieces of grass flown when the ball landed or repairing ball marks. I’ll go back again. But hopefully this review will help the staff to pay a little more attention where it needs.
Recent aeration
Many fairways and tee boxes were plugged recently - aside from that CN was as expected .
Quality .
Greens were fine .
This is certainly one of the top courses open to the public in NJ
Great day
The course was clean of all leaves and in great shape was a great value at $50 after 12pm
CNGC
For a semi private course, it is mediocre. The greens are in really poor condition, and given the fact that it is semi private, they should not have rules where members can only buy certain things off the golf cart, girl, great way to inspire membership.
That said, we continue to play it because it is close to home, but not a great value for the money. You can play KNob Hill for way less and it’s a beautiful course or even Lakewood country club, which is well-maintained. We play a lot of golf, and it would be enjoyable if they actually kept this course up. The 12th hole is terrible
110 for what ????
Course was in terrible shape. First and last visit. Neshanic Valley makes this place look like a dog track and it’s 30$ less. Pebble creek is better along with any of the other Monmouth county courses. Matter of fact I’d recommend playing tamarack over this place. Play at your own risk and expect to be disappointed !!!
One of the best
Second time playing the course this year,
After a couple of days of rain, the bunkers were full of puddles, that was not unexpected,
Cart path only when we started but a ranger appeared just over an hour into the round to tell -90 degrees
We had a rain delay with a few holes left but we waited it out and finished,
Colts neck remains in the top 5 of public courses we play in NJ.
Worth the 50 minute drive for us
Too pricey for the conditions of the greens
Divots EVERYWHERE. No adult beverages unless you're a member or know one. Tough course nut should be in better condition for the price.
Not in great shape for a “Best in NJ” course
The course wasn’t in great shape. Greens were rough. Most annoyingly, the staff is unclear about the course’s rules and regulations. We were told there would be a cart girl, which there was, but when she came around she said you can’t buy alcohol if you’re not a member. That is completely fine but a staff member had earlier told us we’d be able to get a drink on the course if we were in the mood for one. The rule is a little silly but even sillier is the staff not knowing or communicating this. Also on the communication front, the scorecard depicts hole 12 as a par 4 when it’s a par 3. It seems like management has gotten a tad lazy, resting on its laurels.
It a shame
It’s a shame. You go to what you think will be beautiful course and it’s just not. Most of the greens are horrible. There’s construction everywhere except where it needs it.
There’s no need to say anything else.
