Another fun round
River Oaks GC is a course that poses unique challenges with plenty of risk and reward; the course overall was in very good condition with only a few fairway spots that were played with a bump rule, but not many; the pace of play was fantastic despite our slow group, but we were not hindered nor did we hinder any other groups; it was very enjoyable and pleasant which makes it a great course that I enjoy playing.
River Oaks
Played in just over 4 hours. Front 9 had typical slow slow start. Made up time on the back.
#1 hole needs to have the left side opened up, take the sage brush out the first 250 yards or paint it Red for a drop or have local rule to take distance on drop.
#2 hole needs the Russian Olive tree trimmed or taken out on the Blue tee box.
#3 hole needs all of the cattails taken out around the green, the hole would excellent visually.
Sam as ever
Lately when I show up they try to rush me to the tee box. Trunk to the tee box is a no-go for me. I show up early so I can prep: chip/putt/sunblock application/tees in pocket/ball markers in pocket, on to #1 and fire away. 30 minutes.
Also, guys that couldn’t break 120 on their best day Are teeing off the blues.
Again, the course is too short for 3 sets of men’s tees, golfers will bypass the tips but not tips and blues.. White tees are a proper place for most golfers, but they won’t do it.
Also, on this particular day the grounds crew followed me around on tractors. Off the clock.
Good course
They really dont like turning anyone away, they pack it in.
It's just okay!
I want to like this course, but it just has too many strange holes. Most days, the course is in decent shape. The only reason we keep playing it is because of the JR pass for $5 per 9 holes.
Hit Staight off the tee or die
Great course, really beautiful vegetation surrounding the Jordan River canal. Don't worry to look for your ball if you hit it in there.....this is thick stuff, 10 ft. tall. Lot's of wildlife hide there, as we as your golf ball. Crooked hitter will hate this course and will shoot above 100.
MLH
Nice course, fortunately I was hitting ball fairly straight and only got myself in trouble twice, you need to play to best landing spots or you will have problems. Everything was in great shape, tee boxes ,fairways, & greens. Definitely recommend this course.
Tight course but playable
This is a tight but beautiful course. If your a whaler off the tee then this might not be the course for you. If your a smart player then this is a nice course to test your mental abilities. Course is in great condition especially since we have had more 100 degree days this summer than I can remember (I'm 60). Fun course.
Home Course
I love this course. It's beautiful and a good challend
Great round
River Oaks GC is a challenging course from every tee; I the holes aren’t particularly long overall, but golf skill is needed to play the course effectively and to score well; the staff was very friendly and courteous, and the course was in very good condition; there were very few obvious areas affected by the drought.
Good round but I recommend..
I would say the course needs to do away with 4 sets of tees. Most amateur golfers are willing to skip the black tees, but not the black and blue tees, so you get golfers that should be on the white tees playing blues and struggling hard.
It slows play. The guys I played with shot 114 and 116 from the blue tees
Also, it’s nice at River Oaks when Neil is not working the front desk
River Russian Olive
I liked everything about this course except all of the invasive Russian Olive trees that are sucking all the water up on this property.
Cut these trees down and you will have a great course.
River Russian Olive
I liked everything about the course except there were more Russian Olive trees than any other tree on the course by a ratio of 10 to 1.
The Russian Olive is a non native invasive species that sucks water and nutrients from all of our native plants and animals.
The state of Utah mandates that this tree be exterminated where ever possible.
Before the state of Utah mandates specific removal of this tree at this golf course i would recommend setting a goal of removing them hole by hole over the next 18 months.
Removing these trees will not only save a tremendous amount of water but the native plants and animals will really begin to thrive.
When this is accomplished I will start to call this course River Oaks instead of River Russian Olive.
