What a hidden gem. Deserves the golf digest rating. Great layout. Definitely one you should put on the schedule to play.
Play July 5 and 7 2019
From the time I call the golf course to make reservations to the time I got to the front desk to the time I got to the golf cart to the time I got to the first tee and by the time I got to the 18th on both rounds nothing but five star treatment . Course is in excellent shape from TEe to green golf carts are in excellent shape with top Norwich GPS information available . If you are ever in Ruidoso, New Mexico, you are missing out on a treat by not playing the 32nd best golf course in all of the United States . John at the front desk is more than five star very helpful very informative and excellent service every time . And just for your information how many times you jump up on the 16th green and get a standing ovation from two members of the grounds crew .
Made my day,
Dr s. P. Kuhn

RIDICULOUSLY SLOW PLAY
Took 4 hours to play 12 holes, multiple 5somes and one 6some putting on #11 green. Quit after 12 and went to the pro shop to express my concerns. John, working there, starts arguing with me stating it was because I was a single. 4 hours to play 12 holes and it’s because I’m a single-brilliant. Money is better spent elsewhere, where there is professional management.
Overall Best Course in the Region
This is a semi-private course, but does let the public on if tee times are available. Course was in great shape when I played and the views of the surrounding mountains are pretty spectacular. The course does have a good variety of grip it and rip it holes and those that require some thought in club selection and shot making skills. Staff is very friendly. Overall, a solid golf value and experience. If you're in the region and can get on, do it. Is well worth the play.
Wonderful RTJ Jr. Course
A bit expensive, and some of the fairways were a bit thin and patchy. Green complexes in excellent condition. Stunning visuals and elevation changes. Some long forced carries from the back tees. Choose your tees carefully and park your ego at the door.
If you are a thinking golfer who instinctively works backward from the pin and develops a clear strategy based on what you can see - if you take in what the architect has given you, then you will really enjoy this Robert Trent Jones, Jr. layout.
On the other hand, if you just barge ahead, selecting driver on every tee, you are going to lose a lot of balls and you're going to find this practically unplayable.
I found this to be an outstanding golf course.
