Legacy Ridge Country Club
About
Bonham’s newest golf course has the natives all excited about their new Bill Johnston design, created to serve as the centerpiece of a unique residential community. With the benefit of several unique landscapes at his disposal, Johnston built a front nine that starts high and weaves through lakes and waterfalls, smoothly transitioning into a parkland-style route highlighted by pecans and oaks.
The par 5 No. 9 stands out on the front, taking you back up the ridge with an approach shot into an almost cliffside green nestled against the lake.
The wetlands of Bois d’ Arc Creek line the back nine fairways, keeping water in play most of the nine. Johnston made this one fun with multiple approach shots over water, including one par 3 that plays into an island green.
Do what you can to work your way onto this course, because it’s rare to experience such a quality course in such an enjoyable, rural setting.
Getting there : From McKinney, take US 75 north to the Bonham 121 exit. Hwy. 121 merges into Hwy. 56 south of Bonham. Turn right on Hwy. 82 E.

Great narrow course
Great layout... Front nine slivers narrowly between water making for a well placed shot on every hole... Back side changed completely to large oaks and tree lined fairways...greens were in excellent shape wish Norte people would repair their own and other's ball marks. But greens played true!!! Loved it!!! And will play there again!
Nice course
this is a good course to play. there was no problems getting on the course and it was not real busy so it took only about 3 hours to play. would play the course again. would be a tough course it the wind is blowing.
Best kept secret in the middle of nowhere
Other than the dormant fairway grass, no fault of the course, just Mother Nature. This course was great. I would love to play this course in the late spring, early summer.
Great Fun
With the exception of the "no outside golf carts" rule I was impressed with this place. The first golf cart we used was weak and we almost had to fred flintstone it up the hills, after 9 holes we changed carts only to find this one was ill as well. It made THUNK THUNK THUNK when accelerating. That was the only thing I had to say negatively about this experience. We had a good time. the course was picturesque. Lots of water. A couple of little ducks in one pond. The play was fun and we enjoyed it a lot. The clubhouse was very nice and the cart paths well kept.
great outing
had a great time back nine beautiful and challengeing
Enjoy!
Not extremely difficult, open links style on front. Back 9 more traditional, tree -lined fairways. Nice setting.
Nice course for any level of player
Good course for the discounted price offered by GolfNow. Fairways very well maintained. Greens are in good shape but were a bit slow. Wanted to warm up prior to tee-time but they were no range balls available. It was odd because I didnt see many range balls out on the range and it was mid-day on a week day.
A hidden gem!
I played this course when visiting Texas. I am really glad I did. The course was in great shape, and I had a lot of fun on my round. Greens are a little slow but well groomed, as are the fairways. Good scenery and spotless facilities. You must get out and play this course!!
Worth a drive to Bonham
The course is in great condition with one exception, a lot of players at this course don’t repair their ball divot on the green.
The Course staffing is low buget, no cart gril and I did not see a course Marshal. But the course was not Crowded and they had water stationed nicly through out the course. Not bad for a Sunday.
Worthwhile
Very fun course, completely different feel from front nine (classic links style with fairways stretching length of lakes) and back nine (wooded). Very friendly pro shop employees, gave me a free book that described the course after speaking for 5 minutes and learning I drove over an hour to the course to get away from the rush of local munis. Course was in great condition, only complaint was how extremely soft and pillowy the greens were (played at 7am could have been over watered). Everything else was just fantastic, and I look forward to playing this course again in the future.
In excellent condition
Course is in great shape. Vent grass greens in texas in the summer are hard to keep but they are excellent
nice course after a long drive
Nice layout. Really liked the bent grass greens, but they were not cut short enough. everyone had a hard time getting the ball to the hole.
Greens are the best part
Hard to find bent grass greens now days. A pleasant surprise. They were better on the back nine, mainly due to front is built in a flood plain/swamp. Found it to be very overgrown around the edges and snakes were a threat. Front nine was very soft in the early morning as footprints and dents were visible everywhere. Back nine more of a parkland layout. Overall a good time that met my expectations. Short par 5s. Helpful to have someone along to describe where to hit. 3 stars, which could of been 4 if not concerned about snakes and overgrowth.
Wonderful conditions
Lots of water hazards on the front 9. Very beautiful course, will definitely be coming back.
Unique front half
Nice course, beautiful club house, god staff, the course though nice and having a links style front could use a little more TLC but over all good, well worth the visit !!!!
Great Day at Legacy Ridge
Children and I had a great day at Legacy Ridge. The greens were in great shape as well as the fairways when I hit them. Such an interesting course with the two different 9's. Would highly recommend!
New favorite
This place is pretty far from any major city, so be prepared for the drive. I very much think that the drive is worth it. The clubhouse isn't all that impressive, but the man behind the counter was very courteous and handed me a course guide that came in very handy. I signed up for an early tee time and was the first to tee off. The first 2 holes face east, so be prepared to search for your drive.
The course itself was very well maintained. A couple of the greens had several ball marks, but most were good. The fairways were well kept. Starting off, you notice several creeks running through the front nine. Water is in play for 8 of the front 9, but most don't cause any real issues unless you are way off. There are not many trees, but there are bunkers around most greens.
Going to the back 9, this is where the course earns its stripes. Starting off the back 9, you have a large pond to cross with several trees lining the landing zone. Most tee boxes and fairways are lined with trees creating some breathe-taking views. My personal favorite was the par 3 #16. After climbing up a stone stairway to the elevated tee box, you have to hit a longer iron over a 150 yard pond onto a small green protected by trees and bunkers.
I would go to this course every week if it were closer, and the price is very affordable. A very enjoyable round of golf.
Great Course
First time playing this course. Course and Staff were excellent. Love the combination of the front and back nines. Fun course. Will play again. Great value.
A very relaxing round of golf
The course was in good condition, the greens had been recently punched, but still rolled good. The staff were all very friendly, the back nine was very quiet and peaceful, can't wait to play again.
