River Bend Golf Club
About
River Bend Golf Club combines some of the most unique play in the area with a course designed to provide an exciting golfing experience for players of all levels. Beautiful oak trees and meandering streams give the golf course its character, with elevation changes, multi-tiered greens and challenging areas of forced carry-including water features-and areas of forced lay-up in a links-style course, especially on the front 9. The back 9 is a more traditional golf course. All of this combined with the Texas wind makes River Bend a formidable challenge for even scratch golfers. It's one of the only only true links courses in south Texas. The staff is super and the course is very affordable. River Bend Golf Club has a unique practice facility that features an aqua range with an island green. A large putting green makes the Maverick a super practice area.

Pace was slow but nice course
Greens were just punched so not great putting. May have just hit it at the wrong time. Course was in good shape despite the drought. Pace of play was super slow. Had a 2 group in front of us hitting two balls each. Almost 5 hr round.
Tee time should of said greens were sanded and aerated, putting was terrible.
What could have been
Sunday round. Clubhouse attendant was a young man. Eat bud in his ear. Said “what?” About every time we asked a question. Take the ear bud out. Was told the course restaurant was closed on Sunday. Usually the busiest day of the week. Only option to eat was snacks or a cold sub sandwich with one slice of meat and cheese.
Links style course so the course was a bit more natural but the mowing was severely neglected. Longer fairway grass. A couple tee boxes had 2”-3” long grass. The greens wouldn’t hold an approach unless your trajectory into it was really steep. Even then they’d bounce about 8 times and roll. The holes edges were worn out like they hadn’t been moved in a week or more.
This course could be so much better. Had a challenging layout. The par 5s are 500+ and difficult to reach in 2. The par 3’s and 4’s had protection or doglegs to keep you from just bombing them. The course just needs TLC. It’s hot. It needs water and a lot of mowing. Overall, wouldn’t play here again unless it get some serious help.
Pace of play
I had a threesome in front of me and all of them played out of the same bag and no course etiquette at all, the marshal drove by a couple times and nothing was said about the delay
Too many greens need attention
I did not keep count, but it was noticeable that several of the greens had bare spots or invasive grass. This was the first time I played here this year. I only play here in the summer. I do not remember this being an issue before. And I know TX summers are challenging. But it was disappointing.
Decent Course
This was our first time playing River Bend. With some many other courses in the area reseeding their greens it was a welcome change to have consistent greens throughout the round. There are some rough spots and high grass in a couple fairways but overall we enjoyed the course and chatting with the Marshall as he made his rounds. Pro Shop Sandwiches were good at the turn. Staff was nice.
River Bend
Course is in worse shape than last year. The greens are very patchy and bumpy.
Fire ants everywhere. Needs to be treated.
Love the layout but the rough needs to be shortened. I am not the best player for sure but hate losing balls that I know were just off the fairway.
Good course! Always working to improve
They people were really friendly and helpful. They have upgraded to new carts and are always working to improve the course itself.
