Esterel Golf Club

About
Located in the Valescure district of Saint Raphaël at the foot of the Massif de l'Estérel, Golf de l'Estérel charms golfers all year round with its majestic surroundings. Ideally located just 30 minutes from Cannes, many golfers come to practice their game in this idyllic setting beneath the umbrella pines.
Golf de l'Estérel, with 27 holes, is accessible to golfers of all levels thanks to an 18-hole course designed by senior architect Robert Trent Jones and a 9-hole academic course designed by architect Jeremy Pern. There is also a 300-metre driving range where players can practise their strokes.

Somewhat challenging
A beautiful and stately course to play. Course management comes first. Mostly narrow paths and some doglegs to overcome. The conversion of the backnine was a great success for me. I like this course. I can specifically mention the friendly and courteous nature of the staff.
Overrated, over priced and need to attend to customer service
We are regulars in the South of France so know the routine of fleecing summer tourists but golf clubs are normally the ones to buck this trend. Not so L'Est!
Pretty bog standard welcome with a request that, in future, we book buggies led us to a tee where we were expected to play with a lone golfer even though we had already established with the club that our 3 ball would be very welcome to play together, alone. Obvious embarrassment all round and rude remarks from said lone golfer about Brits! We were playing a week's competitive golf hence our request in the first place.
Anyway this is the third visit to a course which is ok but has some ordinary holes and one distinct par 3 which is almost impossible to hit for handicap golfers. Some wet areas and slow play make this a course to miss really, particularly when St. Endreol and Barbaroux are available.
Ok if you want to play to their behest and not yours (who is paying?) and best mid-week, not Saturday's.
