Fairways need a lot of work

The greens were in very good shape, nicely sloped, and fairly true. Most tee boxes were decent. But fairways were very disappointing. I was in them often enough, but I have no memory of hitting off grass. Even when they weren't hampered by weeds and bares spots, they were cut so close that the grass was fairly negligible. We are not yet into our annual drought, so I assume the problem is one of irrigation, and budget. The rough, however, though spotty, was thick and high in most places -- suggesting water is available. Maybe the course superintendent is satisfied with his shaved fairways. It could be the problem is with my own preferences.

This course was in poor condition

I do not plan to play this course again. The greens were in terrible shape and the the fairways were the same. One of the fairways was like playing on concrete.

Poor conditions

The course was in bad condition. The greens were rough and tons of divers in fairway. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Tight fairways

Cross Creek is a fairly short course with tight fairways and reasonable greens. However the 14th hole is being restructured and is in terrible condition!

Great value

Booked thru GolfNow app and played 18 with a cart for less than $20. If I can find that deal again I'll def go back. It rained that morning so traps weren't raked, I assume they would have been otherwise. Friendly guys working, short driving range- less than 190 yards. A lot of OB and houses along course but nice. Greens were in good shape, as were most tees.

Iron game tester

Great layout. Tight fairways. Good test of your iron game. Fairways are fair to poor. Greens are patchy in a few areas. Bunkers are fair. Not a course to be aggressive . Take what it gives you.

Recovering

This course is recovering nicely from last year's awful course conditions. The greens are playable now although it is obvious where the grass has suffered badly in the past. The course is gouged up from players not caring enough to repair scuffs and dents, although the course provides reseeding soil and encouragement. I am hopeful for a full recovery here.

Walked

a solid course, great with a discount

This course ambles along two creeks (seems like there's always a creek or a pond near the fairway or green) between a highway, a busy 2-lane road and around and about in a subdivision of closely-packed estate homes. It has tight fairways and greens that are surrounded by fairly-dense woods and truly-dense undergrowth. One fairway is OB to a row of houses. Not a lot of sand, no brush right up on the green, only a couple of tabletop greens and rather-flat greens at that, the main "defense" of this course is the woods and water. The general pattern is a tee-shot down a chute of some sort to a landing-area maybe 100 yards wide at most, often less, with maybe 10-20 yards of rough on each side before you run into dense woods. For the par-3s, uniformly vertical over some immense hazard to a generous green with a steep pitch off the back and/or sides, either into dense woods and undergrowth or even water. Water is in play on at least half the holes. The woods and undergrowth are always in play. It does cut the player some slack in that only a few of the greens are tabletop-greens and they are usually flat, round and have a decent and consistent speed and there's none of that brush near the greens that some designers love to use. In general the course is usually busy, can get somewhat noisy and slow, but the people are nice, the facilities are very nice and it's close to the DC beltway and easy to get to and I've never paid a lot of money to play this course, I've been playing it for years. I would say that it's a generally-relaxing experience that is best taken at a lesiurely pace and to play it will not take too much out of you but it's still going to be an interesting round. Every tee-shot and iron is a challenge but the greens are just too accessible, flat, wide and overall just plain easy for this to really be "work".

Challenging course layout

Cross Creek is a fun yet challenging course. It is not a spray and play type layout, more like spray and pray you find it. I enjoy this course because it puts a premium on course management. Its not in the best condition but there are deffinetly MCG course worse off.

Interesting Track, Poor Conditions

I played this course about 8 years ago when the conditions were quite good. The quality of the course has fallen considerably since. I would have rated this course "poor", but feel the layout warrants some consideration. Sections of many of the greens are in in need of some serious TLC. The fairways are adequate in terms of landing area, but are generally pretty beat up. The tee boxes need a lot of work. I paid $18 to play basically 17 holes. Hole number 14 has been abandoned. Only the green is maintained (sort of). The fairway is rocky. The score card doesn't even show yardages for any of the tees. It is just blank.

Nice Layout Could Use A Little Work

The course itself is nice - some tight shots keep it interesting - and not particularly long (don't need to pull the driver on many holes). For early in the season, however, I would have hoped to find it in somewhat better condition. Clearly it's got good drainage because it didn't look like the recent week of heavy rain took too much of a toll but there are a lot of unrepaired divots and crab grass and weeds -- some things you might hope got some attention before the season started.

Overall though not a bad value - $50 on a Sunday morning - and it was wide open so we finished up in less than 4 hours even with a foursome in front that didn't let us play through.

Bad experience

Don't play here! The course is drenched after a week of no rain and the holes are far too narrow.

Overall a Good,not great course

I thought the course was decent but not great, the bunkers had very little sand in them for one. The driving range was very short with the inability to use any of your woods or hybrids when warming up due to length restriction. Nothing over 180 yards if I remember correctly. The pace of play could definitely improve as we only played nine in just under 3 hours. I would return to replay the course and recommend the course to others.

Decent course

Great deal for $19. Can't beat that. Course was in decent shape for April. Super windy day. Round could have been 3 hours, but a league was playing ahead of me. So I couldn't play through. Grill was closed. But hopefully they open on weekdays soon.

Some fairways are very tight...houses. But decent challenge.

Wet

Considering that there were plenty of soggy spots throughout the course we still had a nice day of golfing. We had partly sunny 70 degree weather so the wetness was from all the melted snow from the last few weeks. The staff were professional and pleasant. We are interested in trying this course again when the grass is green.

Wet and sloppy.

Very wet and chopped-up. Lots of blind holes and narrow fairways. Essentially layer-out in a wetland. As maintenance catches up to the damage of this winter, this could be an interesting course. Not worth a long drive around the Maryland (help!) beltway. In all fairness - I played the course over a decade ago and liked it at that time.
