Penha Longa Resort - Atlantic Course

About
Tucked away in the Sintra Mountains near Lisbon, the Atlantic course at Penha Longa Resort has a steeply sloping terrain that provides stunning views of the surrounding protected landscape areas of Sintra and Cascais. The designer, Robert Trent Jones Jr., strived to create a challenging golf course while still maintaining the natural beauty of the land. The first and last three holes snake through a valley covered in tall pines and sprinkled with rocky outcroppings. The sixth hole is the course's signature, both for the level of challenge and the beautiful scenery that it offers. The hole plays downhill and downwind with a slight dogleg right. Bunkers strategically situated near the generous green await to test golfers' accuracy.

Thought I saved the best for last
I thought I had saved the best course for our last course in Portugal. Even though the course layout is fantastic, the greens were in such bad shape, we decided to take 2 putts and go on to the next hole. I didn't expect that a resort of this caliber, would allow their main course to get into this bad a condition. The good news, the tees and fairways are in good shape, the bunkers so-so.
Pretty Course with Several Outstainding Holes
Penha Longa is a top-notch resort that has something of the feel of an English country estate, only warmer. The course is a cracker. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr, it makes great use of the considerable height it enjoys with some impressively elevated tees, sweeping fairways and splendid views. Olive, cork and eucalyptus trees help provide definition and water plays its part in creating a rich and lovely landscape. About 7000 yards off the tips, it has hosted the Portuguese Open and rightfully deserves its high ranking among the very best courses on the continent.
