Nanton Golf Club
Nanton is a quaint prairie town perched on the doorstep of Alberta's foothills. The town is best known as being the caretaker of one of the worlds last surviving WWII Lancaster bombers, a piece of Canadian history tirelessly restored by the volunteer staff at The Bomber Command Museum of Canada.
Having just played the golf course in Claresholm this morning and still feeling fresh, I pulled into the packed parking lot of the Nanton GC on the off chance I could get in another round today. A busy place by the looks of things but it was like music to my ears when the smiling face behind the counter said the tee box was open. I was in, out, sprinting to the far end of the parking lot and back making practice swings on the opening tee box in record time. It was so nice to see a strong line up of brand new 2025 Yamaha golf carts available, the kings of the fairways.
The view on the opening hole, a 500 yd, par 5 appeared inviting. The carpeted fairway feeds to the right, between majestic towering trees that set the tone for an adventurous round. The front nine offers playful variety, highlighted by two memorable par 3's.
Hole 3, stretching to 180 yards from the back tees, demands precision, rewarding only the straightest of drives through a chute of trees to a distant green. Later, Hole 8 delights with its artistry: a 154 yd shot over a sprawling waste bunker, with a narrow ribbon of fairway teasing back toward the tee.
If there is a supreme test at Nanton, it is Hole 7. This heroic 379-yard par 4 requires a bold drive to clear the corner of a left dogleg, followed by a confident mid-to-long iron into a fair-sized, undulating green.
The back nine shifts character, trading tree-lined corridors for mostly open fairways punctuated by an abundance of water hazards. Hole 10, a 487 yd, par 5 welcomes you with a gently turning fairway from a smartly elevated tee. The holes continue to blend easily from one to the next. Holes 11 and 14 are good fun and smart shot making will improve your odds of scoring. Hole 18, a deceptive 379 yd par 4, but if managed correctly can give up a closing birdie.
Nanton Golf Club possesses a blend of parkland style holes that fits well with the surrounding prairie. Tee boxes are large, level and provide great driving platforms. Fairways are looked after, bunkers were tended to and the enormous greens were receptive and played to a very nice standard. A most delightful course and disciples of the game would be pleased with the challenges it provides.
To add the finishing touches on a splendid day, after your round, make your way to Mulligan's restaurant on site for a pint and a nice supper.
If you can pair your round of golf with a visit to the Bomber Command Museum, it will make for a uniquely memorable trip. Golf sometimes isn't just about the scorecard, but the places it can take you.

Great and friendly course
Staff are exceptionally friendly, course is in excellent shape and well marked. Would recommend it to everyone.
Good value
Cause was in great shape for the time of year. The greens were really soft so my my game so much easier.
Good time
Greens had just been punched and were doing the back 9 that day. They were still running pretty true. It is that time of year.
Nanton Golf Course
Good shape, greens and fairways are green, even with the dry conditions. entire staff was great.
Pod on the outdoor patio!Lovely rural course in excellent shape, great variety of holes, pace of play was excellent, and we really enjoyed the f
Nanton golf club
Tight fairways and fast greens, definitely not for the beginner, all in all a good test even off the white tees. Really enjoyable course.
Great value
Fairways still a bit bumpy (thanks to 2013 floods) and pace can be a bit slow (no marshalls) but this continues to be the best value course in the Calgary corridor!
Nanton hot deal
This track from the blue tees is fun, the greens are fantastic and quite fast. golf now hot deal makes the beer affordable lol!
Great deal for a pretty good track!!
Greens and fairways are in great shape but slow play
Unfortunately, we got behind a 4 some that was beyond slow and there was no marshal on the course. Hole 8 is a par 3 and we just skipped it because the 4 some was not only slow, but very uncaring about anyone behind them (from hole 2 to hole 8, we never had a shot that we didn't have to wait). Once we skipped that hole, it was clear sailing for the rest of the round. The course needs a marshal or something to monitor slow play. The course itself is in good shape, greens are fairly quick, no complaints in that regard.
Friendly staff great experience
We had a great game on the long weekend. We will be back. Enjoyed the company of our partners and the food and drinks at the club house. The pro shops lady was fantastic.
This is a great course
friendly staff and I played with 3 members who were extremely pleasant
Nanton Alberta's little secret
Great course very good condition staff was very friendly I will golf here lots
Nanton Good
Good, fun, challenging course.
A lot of open space for golfers who like to hit left to right and visa versa, Stay in the middle of the fairway and you'll do well.
Good challenging holes, with a few that test your confidence to reach the green over water.
Nanton is worth a try you'll find yourself wanting to play it again and maybe again.
great game of golf in Nanton
Well worth the hour drive from Calgary. Booked using Golf now. $50 for 18 including power cart (great value) on a Saturday. Front 9 reminds me of Calgary's Earl Grey (narrow fairways lined by large mature trees. Enough water to make it interesting. One elevated T. Back nine is more of a prairie course with more water hazards. Really enjoyed the combination.
A little ways from Calgary, but generally worth it, especially when a deal comes up. This round was particularly slow,.
nanton
The pro shop lady was excellent and very gracious.. She got us out early ahead of our tee time, The weather was threatening and she said she would call us via the horn or by cell to let us know if we had to come off the course. We got in 15 holes before the deluge.
