Located less than a half hour north of Cochrane, Water Valley Golf & Country Club, as its name implies, is nestled in a scenic valley tucked away among scenic hills. The woodland layout features stands of poplar and spruce trees as well as lush and abundant vegetation along the fairways, which gives them a completely secluded feel. The golf course originally opened in 1988 with only nine holes but expanded to a full 18-holes just a few years later in 1994. There have been several renovations to Water Valley Golf & C.C. since it first opened including widening of the fairways and completely rebuilt greens on three of the holes on the back nine. The new nine forms the front and wraps around the original nine holes. It has more sand and water than the original, which means you'll catch a break on the back nine.

Awesome value

The course was in great shape. The only thing that could have been better was greens on the back 9. They had recently sanded them but were still very playable. I'll be back!

Greens are ok.

All greens at Water Valley are over dressed right now and have a lot of excess sand on them (some greens have what would be a flat bunker of sand on them). At this time would play any other course due to this. Courses should notify guests if the greens are dressed. Tee boxes are also pretty divoted right now.

A few rough spots, marshall wasn't very friendly.....

Overall, the course was in good shape. A couple of greens were less than stellar. Booked 3 at first then booked the 4th later on through Golfnow phone support. Golfnow called the course to verify that the 4th was still available and was told it was. When we got there, they tried to tell us that they have had trouble with Golfnow and had booked someone else in with us. Anyway, they made it work and we got to go off with 4 on time. The marshall came around a couple times and didn't say a word or crack a smile or anything. The staff at my private club are way more friendly to guests than this rural course. I just don't think that they like 'big city' folks coming out to their course......

Great place tucked away in the foothills.

A mixture of holes that are challenging, easy, with many dog legs and elevation changes.

Beautiful country course - in great shape, challenging as narrow.

Great condition - lush (july 26/13). Beautifl countryside course. Narrow fairways on most holes - if in the trees can usually find your ball, but chipping out is only possible 50% of the time. Greens generally good but much slower than practice green. Staff cordial. Restaurant slow; food ok; beer cold. Large practice green with chipping area; range with grass. Great value thru GolfNow booking ("hot deal").

The 18th hole is a great finishing hole, narrow fairway, all uphill, opening to a large green.

The front nine allows more opportunity to score well. The back nine with narrow tree lined fairways present many challenges. Then comes the signature 18th hole.
Walking the course is great until you come to hole #18.

Hidden jewel only 1 hour drive from Calgary

I try to play this great course at least once a year. With all of the rain the course has had so far in 2013, the course is lush and the greens are fast. The rough is very thick but well manicured.

A definite must if you haven't played there recently.

What a treat

This course was such a treat can't believe I have been golfing in Calgary area for 30 years and never played here. So thanks to golf now for giving me the opening. The girls in pro shop were bitter the marshal was awesome. This course ranks up there for me and we will be playing again this weekend.

Great value for the money

Got a Golf Now Hot Deal for this course which included cart which is why we booked it. A real gem along the Alberta Foothills. Course is fairly tight with lots of trees lining the fairways so bring your straight ball before your long ball. We had lightning and rain the day we played and the course marshal came around several times to make sure everyone was OK. If you live in NW Calgary, well worth the drive. A long way for us in the South though.
