Fairmont Hot Springs Resort - Riverside
About
The Riverside Course is one of two 18-hole championship courses at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort. While both courses share the Rockies as a backdrop, the other golf course, called Mountainside, possesses a more undulating terrain. As its name aptly suggests, the course runs alongside the Columbia River, whose headwaters shaped the design of the course. Each of the par 3s uses the mighty river to defend fiercely guard the greens. There is tremendous variety throughout the golf course, both in length and terrain, which makes it appealing to different skill levels. It is also an excellent walking course that is enhanced even further with mountain and river views. The fifth hole is the course's signature. This tricky hole crosses the river twice. In addition to the two 18-hole courses, there is also a nine-hole par-3 course.

Fairmont Riverside: RESORT Course??? NOPE!
I’ve played this course over 30 times. I know it well. The layout is reasonable and fair. This visit was VERY disappointing. We booked a two-some at 10:00am mid-week with GOLFNOW and prepaid $49 each plus taxes and fees ($120) and it included a power cart. The price was right! Driving range staff and cart staff were very friendly and kind. They met us with a power cart at the parking lot and I tipped her. A small basket of range balls was included.
Greens were ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. At first, they looked to be damaged by deer hooves. On closer examination, it appeared to be some kind of fungus (“dollar fungus???). Hole 5 was the absolute worst, being ridiculously slow, and felt like putting through a minefield. It was beyond terrible. For future holes, we just decided on “guaranteed two putts” to preserve and hope of fair scoring. Throughout the rest of the round, the ball simply bounced and jumped excessively on every putt, whether it was 4 feet or 40 feet. Greens were mowed very high, and the furriness felt like putting on the fringe.
Also worthy of mention were the quality of bunkers. Some had adequate sand. Most were bare. We played at Greywolf the previous day ($250 compared to $60) and the sand was fluffy, white, fine, and consistent. Back to Fairmont Riverside: Weeds were growing out of most bunkers. Rakes were in short supply. Sand was course and full of pebbles. It’s not ALL negative, the price was right and they repaired the bridge on Hole 5 (after the minefield green).
Once again, I like Fairmont, but these conditions were COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE for a resort course. It felt more like a cow pasture! Knowing what I know now, I’d play it again at $60 with a cart and mandatory 2 putts, but I wouldn’t pay more. Overall rating is BARELY 2/5, and only because the price was so low. I’m the summer, water shortages are going to prevent watering, and it’s going to be a grasshopper farm! That is soooooooo sad.
May Golf at Riverside Fairmount
My wife and I decided on playing Riverside as the price was right for this time of year and our familiarity with the course. We were teamed up with a lovely. long-hitting couple from Jasper, Alberta. The bridge between 6 and 7 was not available due to being under construction, resulting in longish detour. We played the round in 3 hours and 50 minutes. The greens were in rougher shape than we have ever seen due to winter kill and wildlife. They should be in good shape in a few weeks. We will always come back to Riverside.
Springtime conditions
Springtime conditions were as you would expect. Greens were really slow but again look at the time of year. Staff was an incredibly nice and kind. I would absolutely go there again.
Spring Conditions
Great course, the staff is incredible! Spring conditions as you would expect- I was not disappointed. Greens were super slow but good for this early in the season.
Enjoyable course with beautiful scenery.
It's been a few years since we last played the course. We received a friendly welcome from the staff. The course was in great condition. Greens a little on the slow side. We enjoyed a cold one in Dappers Landing after the game with excellent nachos and top service.
A beautiful course in the Columbia Valley
This course ticks all the boxes. It's in great shape, friendly staff and the pace is well suited
Very Playable
We had a very nice time, greens were in great shape they received shots very well and rolled predictably. Sand traps were a little weak, some with very little sand, so not consistent. Overall in very good shape, and appealing to the eye.
Great Course
Loved this course. Well designed course with wide fairways. Greens were in excellent condition and very fast and challenging. The 6th t-box was a bit challenging to find. Great photo op on the bridge crossing the Columbia River. Would definitely play here again.
Great round. Too bad Golf Now lost our tee time.
When we arrived, the pro shop couldn't find our booking. I showed them my email and they were very helpful, starting us on the back 9 to get us out close to our booked time. The manager mentioned that they had some similar issues with GolfNow in the past, and he was trying to contact them. The course was in excellent condition and pace of play was good. Great marks to the people at Riverside for accommodating us!
Golf course review
We truly enjoyed the course and layout. Had some callanging holes and some forgiving holes. We will play again and recommend it 👍
