Holes 18

Style Links
Par 72
Length 6855 yards
Slope 127
Rating 73.1

Designed by the Gary Player Design Company in 1993, Rio Colorado is a scenic course overlooking the Colorado River. The course is the result of Jim Hardy's vision-he pushed hard to create a facility that would rival any of the top layouts in Houston, yet be available to the public for a fraction of the cost. Almost 3 million dollars went into the clubhouse and the course is immaculate-well worth the drive to Bay City for those who are interested in adding this track to their golf resumes.

The most striking design aspect is the difference between the two nines. The front nine is more of a links-style route, wide open and susceptible to the coastal winds, while the back nine is carved out of the trees, with holes 13-17 rolling along the river.

No. 14 is one of the best holes, playing 322 yards doglegging 150 feet above the river. A 250-yard drive will cut the dogleg and carry across the river for the ideal birdie position.

Hole 18 is one demanding ender-playing 474 yards, it's not a welcome sight at the end of a long, hot summer day.

Other notes: Call ahead to ensure there isn't a tournament; otherwise, it's generally easy to walk on the course. The city park next to the course offers camping and fishing on the Colorado River. Watch the wetlands on the course, as alligators inhabit the swampy terrain. Supposedly there are two nudist colonies around Boling, so watch out if you're taking the back roads.

Getting there : From Hwy. 60 west, travel through Bay City and then turn right on FM 2668. The course is on the right side.

Poor course poor staff

Not too busy for it being Sunday. Greens and course in general needs some major TLC. Staff could be a little more friendly given the condition of the course and amenities. Don’t bring a rider that has clubs or you will be charged an extra round , even if they don’t play! Overall 3.6/10.

Needs updating

These greens are all moved forward and have been this way for a long time after talking to other golfers. Putting on a “temporary” green that putts like being on a fairway made it very hard to play a good game. Layout was odd. Cart paths are broken up and you have to drive on the fairways, which can only further be worsening the condition of the course. Overall I would not want to play this course again

Needs some TLC

Honestly was really excited to play this course. We heard it was a lot like the open layout of Freeport. There are not cart paths all the way through, the layout is really confusing and the shape of the greens are really awful: greens were moved up about 40-50 yards from where they originally were (you could tell the old greens were still there). They were not cut down short enough so it was like putting on a fairway. And none of my app distances were right because of the changing of the greens so drastically. Definitely need some TLC to make this worth the cost of play.

Could use a lot of work

Course is in terrible shape, actual greens have supposedly been being worked on for 2 months and not used but nothing looks like it has been done AT ALL, so your playing greens that's actually the fairway grass so good luck putting. They still wanna charge you full price to play and their full price still isn't worth it even when greens are fully open. Staff could be friendlier lady seems nice until u question them about the course and then it's like you don't have to play here when u call them out for charging full price when they don't have a putting green. I will drive the extra hour to play anywhere else. Course could be nice but it just seems they don't care to make it that way. Bunkers aren't even bunkers it's literally a hole in the ground full of grass, no sand at all!! Has potential but management needs to make major changes!!!

Great Course

Played when they had to use temporary greens, but that did not change my opinion of this course. Great layout and very friendly and helpful staff. I recommend any golfer no matter what skill level to get out to Rio Colorado and enjoy this course.

First time playing

The fairways were good but that’s about it. I the course layout was fun and challenging but once you got to the greens putting was pointless. Large patches of sand and dead grass it was very bumpy and impossible to putt. Was fun but for the price there is other courses I would rather play.

Golf Pass and course SUCKS! No recourse!

Used Golf Pass “hot deal” and coupon to end up paying MORE than just showing up. Apparently Thursdays is their $20 day and unbeknownst to us they doubled us up with two large men and my GF can barely play. Then they couldn’t prove we paid. While trying to get a cell single to prove we paid with the app the old women came out to say we had paid. She could we were upset about being doubled up as there would be no way we could play along with the men we were doubled with. Then she started complaining to us that Golf Pass had taken their tees times and nothing she could do. On top of all that she told my GF she couldn't play without a collared shirt. She had on a nice cotton tee shirt with no graphics. Sign said no tank tops but wasn’t going to argue at that point. I’d NEVER go back there! We went down the road to a nice little 9 hole and paid cash. Palacios Golf that’s not on this stinking app that has NO recourse for this! By the time I got home it’s was 2 after 5pm and no way to text this app. My GF has JUST started playing and this was and unfortunate incident and tried telling her MOST places aren’t this ridiculous! We had just played Freeport on their “cheap” Tuesday’s for $20 and had a great experience.

Fantastic fun juncture on an exceptional course

This is my fourth time traveling from Pearland to pay golf at my favorite golf course. Roo Colorado is the place to enjoy a great round of golf with friends. The various slopes and beautiful greens maker the trip well worth coming out. I'll be coming back soon🕳️⛳✝️✨

Great time

Great course and super nice people working the clubhouse and grounds. The owner even stopped and introduced himself. Definitely would recommend to anyone asking. Would consider joining had they not asked for 6 months up front but other than that had a great time and was paired with a couple of Great guys. Busy day but still thoroughly enjoyed every bit of the round.
