Last Round at WGA
My 9 year old son attended golf camp here earlier this year and we’ve played here twice since. Sunday October 1,2017 was the last day of operation as it is being torn down for commercial development. Always sad to see a golf course close but even harder when it holds special memories.
Last time playing Waterloo Golf Academy
The course was in very poor shape. I don't think that
Golf North has done a bit of maintenance this year other than cutting the grass once in while. Greens, traps and fairways were full of weeds.
The only thing harder than the greens were the traps.
Soon Gone! I Will Miss Waterloo Golf Academy
I will miss Waterloo Golf Academy, I have enjoyed playing it many times over the last 20 years. But alas, the course will close at season's end.
Yesterday, I played as well as I have played all season. It was sunny and warm and I joined another Larry for the 9 holes after hitting some balls on the range which was included in my fee. Although maintenance of the course has lagged, it was a fun outing.
Maybe, just maybe I get one more round before I wish the course a fond goodbye.
When we arrived Bruce would not honor our golf cart which was included in the golfnow deal he was very rude and unprofessional and simply said if we didn't like it we could leave and it has been very poorly maintained this year the planned housing development will actually be an improvement save your money and go somewhere else
Not bad for a quick 9 holes
Hot deal price is great. The course was not being maintained well up until recently, but it's getting better. If you want to play a quick nine, and maybe hit a large bucket of balls, this is a great deal.
A beginner's course
Waterloo Golf Academy is a good little track for beginner golfers or someone teaching a beginner golfer. The driving range and chipping area has always been a plus for this little course however the t deck for the driving ranged looked like it hadn't been moved in almost a week. Not much grass in each box. The greens were in good shape but were really slow. Management made it obvious that they were trying to save greens by keeping them long through current dry spell. Fairways were also very dry. All bunkers were hard packed. You couldn't even rake them. The third hole (par 3) was missing red, white and black tee blocks. The 8th hole was missing yellow tee blocks. This is a low level Golf North Course that spends little money in it's upkeep.
Stick to the driving range and practice area. Golf North has stopped investing any money into this course knowing it's short term life before the lease expires. Worst course I've played.
Great for beginners
$15 for walking 9 and a large bucket on the range, great deal if you're looking to take your kids or a beginner golfer out, just dont expect it to be in phenomenal shape (the bunkers are pretty rough). Course is rarely backed up allowing you to play at your own pace which makes most beginners more comfortable.
How an advertised $9 game ended up costing $50+
Yes i am still scratching my head on this one. We did arrive late due to the GPS taking us to a camp ground instead of the golf course. We entered the address using the postal code and we ended up at the gates of a camp ground. There has been a lot of new homes being built in the area of the golf course, last time I played there it was still farm land. We tried programing the GPS again an ended up in a new subdivision. The GPS gave directions to a traffic circle and told us to take the second exit, which turned out to be a walking path. We finally tried using our knowledge and found the golf course. I presented my print out to the clerk and told him we would need a riding golf cart. There were new ones there but we ended up with a balky older cart. Now the bill was $58.90
Good Value for the money for beginner golfer
This course only has 9 holes, fairly forgiving, staff are always friendly and helpful
Great course for people that only want to play half a game being that it's just a 9 hole course. The day we played it was cold and windy so the pace was amazing.
We only played 9 holes because of the extremely windy conditions of the day. The curse itself seemed to be in good shape.
impressive little course
I'd heard a couple of things about the course and all in all its a great place to work on your game. Whats most impressive is the condition of a facility like this. Most beginner or shorter courses tend to be rundown or poorly kept fairways, greens etc. However, Waterloo looked and played great. It was also nice that it was balanced for beginners not jst all par 3s but gives you a chance to play a full game. Was happy to take my wife here and not feel pressured by other golfers breathing down your neck. Will play again.
Nice course - great value
I really enjoyed my round at the Waterloo Golf Academy.
A Nice Course
It's a nice course to play and with a practice area you can warm up which makes it very enjoyable. The course is in good condition and you can play a round in a reasonable time.
Great Begineer Course
Staff were VERY friendly and helpful. Confused about the Golf Now Deal as it offered 18 holes but this is only a 9 Hole course.
They gave us the 18 hole price anyway which was a Great Deal $40.00 for 18 with Cart included!
Great place to practice, we'll certainly go again!!!
Staff were friendly and helpful!
