Lashburn Town and Country Golf Club

The rains that were present off and on during my morning round at Silver Lake GC held off by mid day so I stopped by the Lashburn Town and Country Golf Club. The smiling face behind the counter greeted me like I was a regular even though I’ve never played here before. It's nice when a course gets the small things right...the round starts at the counter, not the first tee. 

It's my first time playing here and it was nice to see what appeared to be some recent upgrades to the facilities, namely a new asphalt parking lot for their collection of gas E-Z-GO golf carts and some new asphalt cart paths both on the walk to the first tee and on the path back to the clubhouse from the ninth green.

The opening hole, a 505-yard, Par 5 sets the tone early by asking golfers to trust their swing with a blind tee shot over rolling terrain. Not being familiar with the course and erring on the side of caution, I played a 5-wood to left centre that yielded a good result. The next good test is Hole 3, an uphill 175-yard Par 3. Club selection here is anything but automatic.

The holes flow seamlessly into one another as the course continues its path through stands of aspen, birch, poplar, and spruce that frame each fairway and define the playing corridors.

 

Fairways appeared to be maintained nicely but in areas it was hard to tell where the rough fairway margins ended and the rough started. The rough was playable as opposed to being penalizing. There were a few areas on the course that remained roped off or were marked GUR due to conditioning. The month of June has been a challenge for communities as the rains have been consistent and heavy at times.

Bunkering was scarce and I only recalled seeing two of them all day. The first was forward and left off the tee on Hole 6 and the other was short and left of the ninth green. Neither one of them were maintained on this particular day. 

 

The greens varied nicely in size and contour, their undulations and gentle swales asking for just the right amount of finesse and nerve to negotiate. Once I adjusted to the slower pace and speed of the well‑groomed greens they played consistent throughout all nine holes.

 

Under the roof of a modern and stylish clubhouse sits both the pro shop and a full‑service restaurant, making it an easy place to start or finish your day.

 

All that's needed to enjoy your round at the Lashburn Town and Country Golf Club is good ball striking and thoughtful course management. The course holds up its end of the bargain, it’s up to you to bring the game.
